VYC - San Diego - Catalina

As my dad used to tell me, anyplace is walking distance - if you have the time!! You can Sail from San Diego, however it is probably around 18 hours at 6 knots!!! The San Diego Venture Yacht Club www.vycsd.com (all Macgregors and trailable boats) ...and you should be a member !!!! goes twice a year ...

Gemini

I made the switch from a MacGregor 26X to a Gemini 105 about 6 months ago. I absolutley love the Gemini 105, I like the shallow draft, centerboards that kick up, rudders that are connected to a steerable outdrive. Very easy to singlehand, very stable platform. The room in the master cabin is almost ...

Insurance

The owners association for my new boat (Gemini 105) just did a survey and it looked like Allstate did very well. Don't know if this tranfers over to X insurance. Best Idea simply shop it around & make sure coverage is adequate for your travels. Mine covers SOCAl and parts of mexico Kevin Carroll

When the Pottie's broken the Party's over !!

Would concur with most comments, you don't need a chemical to break anything down ala larger holding tanks. All you need is a deodorizer also concur that Cholorine while good at cleaning could be an issue in a confined space. Most launch ramps have head cleaning facilities, same as the larger boats,...

Shoal Draft

I may be a little bias since I bought one, but the best Shoal draft boat is the Gemini 105M !!! Centerboards raise up, rudders raise up and the diesel engine is a drive engine that lifts up as well. The price puts it under the seawind and the Gemini is a lot of boat for the money.

X Snobbery

I think it is even a little bit of jealosy as well, I recently sold my 26X and bought a larger boat - Gemini 105M. However, dollars to dougnuts that the same people that have negative things to say about Mac's usually say it from thier lazy-boy. I think because of the versatility of MacGregor's peop...

DVR

I have one of the first Commercial TIVO's (yes it still works) I have bought three succesive ones!!! I would think that a Tivo would be quite a power draw for a standard power plant on a Mac. I just bought a 22 inch flat screen for my Gemini, and it is very very nice, probably going to hold off on m...

Chiming in

I gotta tell you I looked at some of the same boats, for the price, features and living space I ended up with a used Gemini 105 Catamaran. It took me a while to think about the switch from a mono to multihull but the 14 foot beam (puts you in a standard 34 foot slip) and all the inside space. There ...

Still Waters

No problem !! The picture is in South Bay of San Diego Bay on the 'strand' we would take it over and beach it and let Lauren run around. Nice sandy bottom, boat is very easy to beach as long as the tide does not get ahead of you, simply pushed it off a little and motored off. Probably did this aroun...

Uh, that is my little girl !!!

Hey.....that is my little girl on what used to be 'Jump the Shark' I sold it a few months ago. We had lauren, (girl pictured) on the boat at about two months old. She was called the 'Boom Baby' in my Marina because we used to put her on a swing on the boom. Kevin Carroll Catastrophe 2000 Gemini 105 ...

Slip Cost

Another benefit of the Gemini is the 14 beam fits her into a basic 34 slip. Keep in mind San Diego slip fee prices.....I pay 380 a month. Which is quite good in So Cal.

Heavy Seas, Cracks

James, really only using as a coastal cruiser. Although these boats have gone across the Atlantic and other trans ocean passages quite easily. Tony writes about his Atlantic passage and 25 + foot rollers in Gale force winds!! The low center of gravity and lack of keel make this particular Cat a very...

Gemini

I paid a hair over 100K for a 2000 that was very very nicly equipped. I find it hard to believe folks are getting asking price on the used ones listed through Yachtworld and other sites. As for the 145K new ones listed, that is pretty bare bones and does not include the shipping to the West Coast. B...

Have had my new Gemini 105 for about two weeks now but still find myself coming back to this site!!! Was out this weekend and I had promised to post some first reactions of the Gemini 105 vs. 26X I bought a used 2000 105 (http://www.kodakgallery.com/BrowsePhotos.jsp?&collid=41891338607&page=...

Gemini

Me-Mine, interesting you bring up the 'gratification' issue. Part of the Gratification of owning the 26X was the community. Making my own mods, joining the Venture Yacht Club in San Diego and learning from the other X owners. While I am sure I will enjoy the new Community of Gemini owners. it won't ...
