Re: Parking While Extended Sailing

Hey, Inquisitor! Nice to hear from you, I was worried you had moved on and didn't say goodbye! For extended stays I like a nice fenced marina, although if you're in Canada or certain parts of New England that's not so important. I've left the rig at the public launch in Westport NY for a week, and ...

Parking While Extended Sailing

If I'm towing to a distant area with the idea of putting the boat in the water and sailing for say... a week, a month, several months... is there a generalized category of place that I can park my tow vehicle and trailer? For instance... Marinas - will they allow non-members? Public boat ramps State...

Think you're right. Just re-looked at mine.
I been watching too much Captain'Q's :) and must be remembering one of those old barn-door rudders looking like a board with rounded edges.

Re: Best sailing speed

But in fact it makes no sense for me. Airfoil or in our sense hydrofoil are wings that have different shapes on both sides. If they are same like daggerboard the do not produce lift. So as long as both rudders are same - it makes no sense to talk about foils - thats my opinion. This is the misunder...

Re: Battery set ups

I only read the O.P. and skimmed some of the replies... apologies if this has already been covered. As you have already discerned, there are many ways to roll the project. Many solutions (some simple, some complicated) are based on specialized use cases and don't apply to other cases. In my case, I ...

Re: Refrigerator

The Engel's are an old gold standard, but they don't have an advantage on power usage any more. They may have on built-like-a-tank-longevity, but that's up for grabs too... to early to tell. Many YouTube comparison tests will compare these Chinese knock-offs to Dometic, Waeco and/or Engel and often ...

Taking a page out of Bilgemaster's playbook, the "freight" has a budget 134a set. https://www.harborfreight.com/ac-r134a-manifold-gauge-set-60806.html Since 410a and 134a use the same type oil, it's probably ok to use the same gauge set on both. If you aren't working on systems with compa...

Re: A/C that runs off a battery...

... The stuff will work somewhat over a pretty wide range. However, if you want to spend a boat buck on a build, you'll want to do better. I say go for it! And have fun. Here is some light reading that may give further insight into your project, but remember this is a document for pros that have to...

Re: A/C that runs off a battery...

I have an old house fridge from 80's. It was working when I purchased a new one about 5 years ago, and took it off-line. Its about to go to the dump and I'm wondering... Just to learn about refrigeration and cobble things together... purely experimental. I want to experiment with soldering replacing...

... Each of the pumps tested separately exceeded the inflow capability of the full open garden hose. :) :) The out flow from the discharges were solid jets. ... Just think... in a pinch you could intentionally hole the boat and use them as propulsion to get home in case your engine dies. :P :D

I just have two batteries that power everything. I'm in a slip with shore power, but really plan to use this cooler on trips. I have a way to monitor my batteries. I'm looking forward to seeing how they hold up. Jeff I don't have very scientific information on how this is working. I brought the boa...

Hi Inquisitor It’s close enough :D The efficiency of charge get me an idea of charge rate. Was sort of ball parking how much solar power wattage would be required to recharge different battery types. So considering starting with amorphous solar panels that we could easily mount 100 Watts and then u...

Re: Water Lilly Revival

Well my post just up and disappeared… So basically I said after 30 years of auto mechanic work, and 15 behind a parts counter I am well versed in what’s what with a battery, marine or otherwise. The only thing I have found in my paperwork, or other resources for my boat is where the battery goes, w...

... Don't mistake me for a naysayer. I'm cheering you on, and only injecting a taste of numbers when absolutely necessary. You've got a great concept. After all, they're selling something remarkably similar for $1,000. A water-cooled version could probably beat the efficiency up a few points. ... N...
