I think
I guess comparing it to the 26s was irrelevant, so scratch that. And please note, when answering this question that I realize the hull speed of my boat. The question really is: When it's not going at hullspeed, but going full tilt with the 8hp, (ie: into a strong wind, under a bridge, up a large wav...

Best engine for a Mac 25?
Hey yall. I posted on another forum this same question, and got varying replies. My question is whether an upgrade from my 8hp suzuki would be helpful (like to 15hp). The reason being, that the 8hp is great for reaching hullspeed in flat water, but I thought in really large waves, currents, or winds...

Mac25 - Best Engine ??
I want to take my 85 Mac25 to the Bahamas, and want to make sure I have enough HP to handle big waves, even if I am already to get to hullspeed with 8hp.
What do you all use?
How much engine can this boat handle?
Let me know! Thanks!

THESE FUSES ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!
So, the latest: I pulled the fuses, went out to West Marine, and put in fresh ones. No luck. Tiny size difference. Then Boater's World. Same dilly. It turns out the ones that came with it are an inch or so, but the standard is 1 1/4. I contacted the Sea Dog people, who said it should make no differe...

CHEERS TO YOU ALL
Man, I can't believe how cool you guys all are, helping people like me out. I guess it always blows my mind when I can type in some problem that's beguiling me, and a total stranger, or strangers, in this case, come in and save the day. YOU ROCK.
Strangers no more.
Your friend,
Jack

My ongoing education...
So is an incandescent light either AC or DC, or does it work on both? I had small wattage bulbs in my boat and ripped them out because I had used them with only shore power and they were AC. I guess it's not too late to put them back... My breakers/fuses look like little red rectangles, to the left ...

Lighting Questions
I moved the cabin light in my mac 25 more over the table, and after doing so, it went off. I figured I had the terminals crossed. When I went to reverse the leads, I think I blew a fuse, maybe by crossing them. Playing around and trying to understand the switch panel wiring (I'm way more familiar wi...

When should I replace sails?
I have a mac 25 from 1985 with the original sails, one of which just ripped today in a strong jibe in 20 knot winds when it hit the sailstay. The shape seems to have a very deep draft, and I wonder if they are stretched from use, and ripped from weakness. Any thoughts? I just am not sure if I want t...

BEST ENGINE FOR A MAC 25?
The Macgregor site said 10hp was the most you should put on the 25. But then I heard people on the site here say that 25 would be better, that "too much is never enough," etc. What do you all think? Can the transom handle a stronger engine? What if I build a better motor rack mount? Can I ...

Best Engine for a Mac 25, and Can it go in the Ocean?
I've heard varying reports from non mac people about whether my mac 25 can handle blue water, what it's rated at, etc. Are they jealous, or should I really be worried about going from Florida to the bahamas and through the carribean on it? Also, anyone have an idea what the best motor is for this li...
