My advice would be check under the seats and see how much water is under there and ask how long the water has been there and make sure the fiberglass is in good shape. Also check the battery area to make sure no acid has gotten to the fiberglass.

Re: Busted 88 Mac 26D daggerboard

David: Go right to the source Mac Gregor in Costa Mesa CA, talk with Bill (949)642-6830. When I busted my board on my old D, he sent me a new one. It seems they make a few of the old parts...I always wondered if th M's board works on the D, since the new board they shipped me seemed to be smaller t...

Replacment rudder from IDASailor

I had bought a rubber from IDAsailor about 3 years ago and being that we races our Mac 26D we put extreme stress on the rudder. It broke at the beginning of a race 2 weeks ago. I contacted idasailor and a replacment rudder was shipped out no questions asked and extremely pleasent customer service. I...

My 1988 Mac 26D is great. The wife and I use ours for racing and day sailing so it fits our needs. We have been thinking on getting a bigger boat and for some reason I find it hard to sell my mac to me it's just a good all around boat.

The first sailboat I owned was completely made of styrofoam and had single sail I think I was around 10 years old. I would sail in ponds as my dad fished. It lasted about a year or so. After that it never even crossed my mind to get another sailboat until one day someone in the office said thet they...

I have a 26 D which has almost the same bottom as the 26 M. The fastest that I have had my 26 D was 6.6 knots down winding and the dagger board pulled up to give less drag. Oh and the wind was blowing about 20 to 25 mph made for a interresting ride.

trailorable

Not knocking Mac's I own one but Hobie made a 30ft monohull in the mid 80's that was trailorable and I have read a story about a guy that made the trip from Cal to Hawaii in one. Last time i checked they were running in the price range of 15,000 to 20,000.

Re: Racing

DavidB, I wrote a long reply but my browser dropped the connection and I lost it before I could post it. I have raced my X every year. I have raced on the Great Salt Lake, Lake Mead and San Diego Bay. Have more fun competing in one design and without meaning to brag my X has only been beaten by 1 o...

In no doubt due to the drowning of the two children on the unballasted X, the safety page for the M specifies that unballasted operation is for not only sails down, but "all sails removed, engine power only." That same page has safety warnings for the X at the bottom, and the tone for unb...

phrf

I have only been sailing for 3 years and racing for 2 but this is how our club sets the phrf on the boats in our club. The phrf chairman reviews the phrf set through several clubs then the chairman removes the lowest then the highest phrf rating and then adverages the remaining. So far in our club n...

Re: PHRF rating...

What group gives a x or an M boat a 216 rating, I have seen 240-265 and that seemed marginal... I probably wouldnt go onto a course unless I was given a 280 to 310 rating..... with my sail setup..... 210 seems a little low....3 1/2 minutes per mile hmmmm , I need more than that.....lol The club I r...
