Re: How long have you owned a Macgregor?
Hello, I purchased my :macx: brand new in 1996 and have owned it ever since. I sold a Macgregor 25 which I owned for a couple of years before selling to purchase the "new model" at the time. I got to test drive my :macx: from the dock at at Roger MacGregor's house in Newport Beach. Lots of...

Re: advice on selling my Achilles dinghy
Just a couple things to add. 1) I have used Offer Up pretty successfully to sell cars and purchase/sell other items like kayaks recently. I am old school as well and found out about this through my children. I have sold multiple cars in the past using more traditional means like Autotrader, etc. The...

Re: Morse steering system maintenance
I recently replaced the entire steering system on my 1996 :macx: 2 years ago as I found the outer cable cover (plastic) had degraded in numerous of places. This led to the rusting of the outer cable housing (carbon steel) in numerous locations. Eventually the steering starting becoming stiffer which...

Re: MacGregor Sailing Accident - Safety Reminder
I found a link to the marketing video for the 26X which happens to show what happens to the boat when the ballast is filled. Also, when the boat fills with water! On a side note, this is the same location in Newport Beach, CA (MacGregor's home dock ) I got to do a test ride of the 26X before buying....

MacGregor Sailing Accident - Safety Reminder
Not sure if any of you have seen the story at the following link: https://abc7.com/post/1-person-killed-after-being-trapped-overturned-boat-off-redondo-beach-coast/15505960/. Anyway, this is the first fatality on a MacGregor sailboat I can remember hearing about in So Cal. Looks like the boat overtu...

Re: Fuel Line Broken
On my 1996 :macx:, I am on only my second fuel line with fittings and bulb since new. There wasn't a problem with the original I was just a little concerned with the age 16+ years when I replaced. The only difference is I purchased from the outboard manufacturer - Honda when I replaced. I am still u...

Re: Mast Lighting
Lots of talk about bad fittings here. The one thing I did back in 1996 when I first wired extra items on my new 26X like the VHF radio, the stereo, extra fuse panel etc. was use a corrosion inhibitor gel on all the "permanent" electrical connections. This has worked great as have not had a...

Re: Motor choice
I know this is a conversation about Suzuki outboard choices. As the original owner of a 1996 Mac 26X with the original 50 HP Honda still in use I've come accustomed to a very reliable motor. For the 28th straight boating season, I've simply changed all the oils, filters, greased the required spots, ...

Re: Where are the "old guard" of this forum?
I joined in 2007 following my purchase of a :macx: in 1996. I recall joining as needed some info and found this site on the Internet in the process. I previously owned a Mac Mac 25 which I purchased right out of college in 1992. I am now 59 and looking forward to many more years of using my :macx:. ...

Re: premade 26X cushion covers
As a 26X owner myself, I faced the same issue of finding replacement cushions for my 1996 26X (original owner). I am also the do it yourself kind of person so that was always an option. Long story short, after adding up all the costs for both interior cushions, cockpit cushions, sail repair and trai...

Re: celebrating 20 years of Mac ownership
Nice job on the 20 years! I myself am coming up on 27 years. My story is I purchased my 26X in Southern CA through a local broker. I had the opportunity to see these boats being made at the factory. I remember test driving the boat in Newport Harbor where we picked up the boat from Roger's home slip...

Re: Hot Hub
Hi, You did not mention if you have drum or disk brakes on the trailer. Either could be a factor to the increased heat. I have stainless steel disk brakes on my trailer and after sitting for the off season (these are 304 SS) they will build up a thin corrosion layer which will tend to add friction (...
