Re: Ballast Valve Alert
I think I warned someone about this type of mod in a previous posting. There is no way I would connect the inside of my boat to the anchor locker which traps copious amounts of rainwater and itself drains slowly at the best of times. Rogers design is perfect and the boat will not flood even if you l...

Re: AMERICA'S CUP
You didn't miss much. I caught the first race on TV and it was more interesting to watch the graphics than the boats. This is an event that has gone the same way as F1 with more interest in what happens in the law courts than on the racecourse. I don't think that 165 years of history is any good rea...

Re: To Batten or Not
Never heard of any advantage in not having battens. Stock ones aren't much and fall out all too easily. I replaced mine at Westmarine. You'll need 3 No. 30" tapered fibreglass battens (Item 206151) and 1 No 24" (item 104067).

Re: rudder alignment, starboard turns, search issues
I aligned my rudders and motor on the trailer. I fixed the rudders so that they were parallel to the ground. This makes it is easy to judge which way they are pointing. Luckily both rudders were aligned with each other from the factory (it seems this is not always the case!). At the time I didn't at...

Re: Flaming Inverter
1750 Watts. WOW!!
Last time I looked Watts = Volts X Amps therefore current drain of 150 Amps you wont need water ballast on account of all the batteries your gonna need.

Re: Did u get your Mac on time?
Hi, Don't worry. I ordered direct from Sharpmarine and had the same experience. Laura was very helpful and answered all of my enquiries by return e-mail but there is a period when the boat leaves the factory and passes into the hands of the shipping agent and everyone loses sight of it for a while u...

Re: Anchor Locker modification
Hi, Bizzy wrote "I will run a drain from the chain locker box to the recessed box at the ballast plug. The relatively small amount of water from pulling the anchor can then be drained when I empty the ballast." I hardly ever use my anchor so the locker stays locked for months. Last month w...

Go for it. But don't forget you have to have one on the other side as well!

Re: POWER Ballast tank modification with alarm
A word of caution. I note that this mod was first posted in 2006. If Paul is still around he should be able to tell you that his copper pipe and valve have corroded away by now as they are not at all suitable for use in seawater. If you are contemplating such a mod I would suggest you use thick wall...

Re: Offshore registration
First off, if there is a Mac dealer in Vietnam they will only sell you a boat through him in which case he will sort out any registration requirements for you. I bought mine in East Malaysia where there is no dealer so Sharp Marine shipped directly to me and I struggled with local registration requi...

Re: Chutescoop and A-Sym Spin
Hi Gary, I've recently fitted the chutescoop from KH. I have the std Asym spinnaker but can tell you that the chutescoop is about 18 in shorter than the tack length leaving some sail to flap about when the sail is doused. If you are going to fly the sail as Roger intended you are going to have some s...

Retract it fully and try jamming one of those rubber door wedges between the trailing edge and the casing

Re: Compass bubbles... I don't get it???
Don't worry it is normal to have small bubbles in liquid filled compasses. As the liquid heats up it releases some of the gas dissolved in the liquid (gases are less soluble in liquids as the temperature rises) hence the bubble. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well the other way round so it won't...

Re: Suzuki DF50 What speed do you get??
Hi Allan, I have the DF50 on my 2007 26M. The dealer offered the engine with the standard 12 pitch 3 blade prop but we immediately found this to be too much and the engine would only lug up to about 5300 rpm (manuf recommendation is 5800 to 6200 at full throttle). I ended up with a 10 inch pitch as ...

Re: Suzuki 70 overheat damage?
Happened to me though not for the same reason. I was flushing the engine (50 HP Suzuki) from a dustbin , standing right next to it talking to someone and didn't hear the buzzer going off. I don't know how long it ran like this but certainly for a few minutes. No damage seems to have been done and I ...
