Outboard Selection

You will want to read PRACTICAL SAILOR...December 06...they like the Mercury 2.5 and the Honda BF2D. That issue also summarizes the best Gear of the Year. For Mac owners it is a useful and worthwhile publication. For those of us in the Northern Climates, it is a little preview of balmy summer days d...

Confessions of Deep Scratches in My Gelcoat

O.K. O.K. here's how I did it. I backed out of my slip in a busy Marina. Had my wife and two daughters and a their girlfriend aboard. The maneurvering space is fairly tight. What did I forget???? To lower the daggerboard. As I shifted into forward and turned the wheel to move the boat to the center ...

Gelcoat Repair....Help !!!

Time to patch up a few mistakes on our blue hull this Spring. I ordered a pint of blue liquid Gelcoat from the factory...how much MEKP should be mixed with the gelcoat ? About how long does it take for the mixture to begin to harden up in order to reach the proper consistency to apply? And how long ...

Hot Air

   I believe that the heat buildup within the vessel has a direct relationship to the sympathetic nervous system response of peripheral vasodilation associated with the fight or flight mechanism experienced by the sailors involved. Therefore as the discussion becomes more heated, s...

Ouch

 :?: :?: :?: I recently developed some deep "scratches" in my beautiful blue gel coat. I am talking I think (closer inspection later today) about 1/16 of an inch deep and about 4 inches long. I have two of them about midway up the freeboad. Talk to me about repairs, and I do it or doe...

Congratulations

Blue is beautiful...watch that daggerboard in shallow water. It doesn't give like the swingkeel. I crunched mine in shallow water. Not repairable $260 for replacement with shipping. The good news... the daggerboard trunk is super strong. Good luck

Drilling Holes

I expect to start my Spring Spruce up next week. I'd like to add a 12V 'cigarette style" receptacle in the cabin. Any hints on drilling technique, drill bits etc. :?:

Thanks

Sunset

I am addicted to the Boston Skyline Sunset...we sail into the outer harbor in the evening, watch the sun go down over the city. We then watch the lights of the city come on and sail back in the dark using GPS. When the wind dies we motor. God I love our MacGregor!!!

We are experiencing a Blizzard in Boston as I key in my question...before I crank up the snowblower I would like to ask about bottom painting my 26M. UV Protection vs Jib Replacement

I just completed a great first year sailing the waters of Boston Harbor in Slainte (SL--LAWN--JA, for non-Gaelic Folk), our 26M. The boat was in the water from April 15 to Nov 15. My question is whether to consider a Sunbrella UV protection strip at $8.50 a running foot, vs simply replacing the jib ...

Shedding some light...

I kind of came up dry when posting a question recently, but Bill @ MacGregor bailed me out. For 05M owners the Masthead Bulb is a Hella 10W and the spec. # is 78206. The lamp fixture itself is a Hella #62242B. Hope this helps some of you out there. Interestingly, the other brand new McGreg...
