Re: Need identification of two screws

Thanks Tom, Lee and Overeasy,

Indeed, the screws were left off the rubber boot covering the exit hole of the new cables.

What a great forum you have here!

Re: Need identification of two screws

Lee, I won’t be back to the boat for a few days but thank you for that observation! Indeed, I removed the boot from the cables and fuel and power lines at the transom. And while I replaced the boot afterwards, I probably left out those two screws. 99% sure you are correct bc the threads are NOT mach...

Need identification of two screws

I am trying to get ready for the first splash of 2024 for my 1999 Mac X. Yesterday I replaced both control cables. I dropped the lower unit to check the water pump impeller. I removed the internal flywheel cover and checked the Honda BF50A belt and put in a new thermostat. I changed oil and filter. ...

Re: Where are the "old guard" of this forum?

I’m still kickin’ but not posting very often so I missed the cutoff of 30 days (maybe 30 months. Ha) My Mac is less and less used as my age increases. 75 this past June. Only out twice over the summer. Maybe again this fall. Our health is fine but stamina in face of increasingly hot summers ( or is ...

Re: Prep advice for a coastal sailing newby

For Newbies and others, An emergency locating beacon (ELB) or emergency personal indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) are valuable out on the distant open waters. In fact, each crew member can have their own, hooked to their PFD. Sad, that today's news has this article. They can't find the other passenge...

From Yahoo News, The project, called the "Colorado River Connector Tunnel," involves a "private access tunnel along with associated improvements," so perhaps Musk wants a secret road to enter his giant factory. Or maybe he's looking for a way to travel between companies with stea...

Re: Ingress at rubrail

PSNA has it right....

Definition of rub rail, "stops rubbing the rail"

Definition of deck to hull joint, "joint"

My unfamiliarity with the 26D have lead my comments to be incorrect in your case....... good luck. Maybe some more pics could spur some constructive suggestions.

Re: Rub Rail restore or replace?

Imho, use Liquid Nails LN-901 HD 11-oz from Lowes. $3.28. I posted here about it years ago for my X's rub rail. The rub rail is stretched on warm and contracts tightly when cooled. You hardly need the adhesive at all. The waterproofing is inherent in the deck-to-hull screwed joint and the rub rail's...

Re: Load Rite Trailer for 26x

I felt the need to contribute my satisfaction of my Roadking trailer dual axle. I love it as much as the boat. I agree with the sentiment that a dual axle is the best insurance and good vibes when towing. I bought it in 2018 for under $3k. Roadking said I needed a bigger trailer, but I finally said ...

Re: Anchor for 26D, 14# or 22#

Procedure to raise almost any hard-dug-in Bruce anchor: 1. In hard wind or current, position boat over anchor if possible. 2. Otherwise, pull rode until very snug and cleat off. 3. Motion of boat or just the tension in the rode will break anchor free, eventually. Granted, 5kg Bruce is easier to rais...

While the above topic is from 2009, it still has good info.

Summary for me, 10 kg Bruce up front, 5 kg Bruce aft, and Lewmar inside as a possible kedge or backup.

OverEasy, If you have to write 1000's of words to explain you are not fearmongering then .... you are fearmongering. Apologize to Victor and let's all get back to our normal best-boating-forum in the world. The rule seems to always have been here, be kind. Nothing has happened to higher hp Macs. So,...

Re: Discussion about OpenCPN

I wanted to update my post to say that making a do-it-yourself chart plotter is not a good idea imho. I succeeded in getting my touchscreen programmed and added a gps usb stick. Then I realized it was very inferior for cockpit use. On line I found sailors using a computer or tablet in the cockpit, s...
