I use my spinnaker halyard or mast lift rig as backup
Whenever I am working on my forestay...I have my spinnaker halyard led forward to the bow and secured or my mast lift rig set up. It means that I have to ease two lines instead of one...but I have had the forestay try to pull out of my hands more than once. I always assume that I am going to be clum...

Correct sequence for reefing sails
What is the recommended sequence to reef sails when the wind continues to increase in velocity I have noticed some boats drop the main fully and leave up the headsail, others drop the headsail and leave up the main. I have a 130 genoa and the mainsail has two reef points. I have tried many combinati...

What pitch prop?
My :macm: came with a 60HP Merc Bigfoot with a 10 pitch prop. When I run over 3500 rpm, the prop begins to cavitate and the stern begins to vibrate. My Outboard dealer has tested the motor and found no motor vibration...he stated that a 10 pitch prop spinning faster than 3500 rpm will cavitate! At l...

Suggest getting 'blue-hull' touchup kit from BWY in Seattle
I have a 2004M with blue hull. There are several White hull Macs at my marina. I have had people walk the docks and they stopped and complemented on the blue hull versus white...But my blue hull does show minor scratching from the fenders...I just wipe several coats of marine boat wax over the light...

About 'rogue waves'
I was a academic oceanographer, for thirty years, until my retirement. Over and over again, my co-workers and I found that the standard studies of wave statistics never really covered what are now called 'rogue waves' Standard studies always stated statistics such as: one-out-of-three waves should b...

SAME RESULTS...TOTAL FAILURE BY END OF SEASON
I had the same result...total failure of the unit after two months. A great idea which doesn't work I kept my :macm: in fresh water and it didn't last a full season. Luckily I kept the original ballast waste gate and reinstalled it. I am going to put a short extension on the top end of the pull rod,...

engine vibration at higher rpm
I have a 4-stroke 60HP MERC BigFoot with an 11 pitch prop. At higher RPMs, (above 3500), I start getting noticeable vibration from the engine.
Below 3000 RPM there is almost no engine noise and no vibration.
Am I getting cavitation? Do I need to go to a 'longer' pitch on the prop?

AIR HOSE CONNECTED TO BOW VENT
I also inserted a fitting to my :macm: forward ballast vent and fed a hose up to a bulkhead fitting in my anchor locker. It has worked like a charm but I have had two questions myself about the water ballast tank... How to know when the tank is 'completely full'...I installed a level sensor into the...

Blistering in Minnesota
I kept my 2004 :macm: for four months in a central Minnesota lake during 2005...water temps varied from 45 to 78 degrees during that summer. LOKI developed severe blistering! This spring (2006) I took her in for sanding and bottom paint. Repair shop said that any fibreglas boat kept all summer long ...

where to attach mast raising shackle on bow?
When I raise and lower the mast on my 28 :macm: , I was told to attach the bow shackle in one of the two holes drilled in the forestay plate. However, my roller furling reel blocks a straight line from the attachment hole to the mast raising boom. The line has to bend aroung the reel and forces the ...

Bottom Paint (Fresh water Lakes)
Last year when I bought my 26M, there were forum discussions about whether or not a Mac HAD to have bottom paint to protect the gelcoat when kept full-time in fresh water. I kept LOKI for just two months in Mille Lacs Lake, here in Central MN... I had put six coats of Poly-Glo wax on before launch.....

Are gelcoat 'osmosis' blisters structural or cosmetic damage
Before I bought my 26M, it was kept for three months in a freshwater lake marina without bottom paint... The white gelcoat on the hull has several areas where there appears to be multiple pin-head size 'osmotic blisters' I plan on having the hull sanded and a epoxy bottom paint applied. The ballast ...

How many locations needed to support hull?
I have a 26M and need to touch up the bottom paint where the trailer bunk pads have worn away the paint. I was able to use the trailer lift to raise the bow...placed old tires and a rubber pad beneath the keel...then lowered the trailer enough to clean and repaint the bow pad areas... But the two se...

electric valve did not last one season
I replaced the ballast valve with an electric one from Camping World... worked like a charm until the end of the season... Totally dead when I went to activate it to put the M back on the trailer! I ended up cutting off the electric lead and replacing it with a standard 3 inch waste valve. The idea ...

To Richard Obrien...thanks for the cable connection comments
I wish that Uflex, who I talked with a lot...when I found that the Merc cable connectors would not let me make a clean interior run, would have mentioned using their cables with a Merc engine adapter, rather than Merc cables with the too-long control end fittings. I wish that your advise could be ke...
