Re: Replacing Detmar Steering Cable

Thank you all for your replies . I was rather hoping you would suggest I just change the cable but, having read discussions on steering on this forum, I didn't really think you would. I have never taken the drill to my :macx: and it is unfortunate that the first hole is the biggest and without the ...

Replacing Detmar Steering Cable

I have a Detmar 4-200 series square rack steering system on my 2000 :macx: with an alarmingly stiff cable but Detmar no longer import the replacement cable to England. My question is: can I use the Teleflex SSC134 as a replacement cable for my Detmar or do I have to change the whole helm to the SS14...

Re: Problem with Carburetor?

Many thanks for all your helpful replies - I know where to start now. I'm planning to disconnect the fuel line again and, a few seconds later, when the first cylinder quits, I will stop the engine and drain the carbs (when cool!). If I could drain them into four separate jam jars I may well identify...

Problem with Carburetor?

Before retrieving my :macx: for winter I disconnected the fuel line & ran the engine to empty the carbs. One of the cylinders stopped firing almost immediately while the rest carried on going for a minute or three as they do. With hindsight, this has happened before and I wonder if there is some...

Hi Rick On the subject of leaks the best thing to do is take the laptop to bed :!: There are excellent discussions on this forum which will keep you amused for hours & give very sound advice. I was yearning for an :macx: for years but was reluctant to replace the :mac19: because of the towing. H...

Re: Open sea?

Would I be mad to think of 50-100 mile coastal passages? Are they strong and stable enough? Hi I hate to quote the boring European Smallcraft Directive but the 26X is certified for Category C, designed for up to force 6 winds & 2 metre waves. These conditions are exceeded on the English Channel...

Hi Rick Congratulations - I know that across the pond Macgregors cost half but what you negotiated has to be the best deal ever by UK standards. It certainly leaves you plenty of margin to sort out the engine (if need be) plus anything else. As for the rainwater leaks, because the boat is double ski...

Hi Rick I was delighted to buy my 2000 26X a few weeks ago for £13,000 (also with a bilge full of rainwater) until I saw on ebay a nice Mac X at Beaulieu which went unsold at £10k! Unfortunately, as a newbie, I'm not authorised to post the link but if you search ebay UK for ref number 140156440370 y...
