Re: Wildfire near our marina

So far, there has been no loss of life or homes. Probably because the fire is mostly in the mountains away from people and they are blocking it from moving towards structures. The remained at just under 12,800 acres. All Evacuation Orders are transitioning to Evacuation Warning status. Areas will be...

Re: Battery drained

The ballast going down sure is suspicious. From your observations, it is a possible source. Again, it's very rare to have ballast leaks, but it's been reported to occur. You could drop some of these tablets in the ballast tank and see if the water turns blue and you can find a trail. https://www.hom...

Re: Wildfire near our marina

They still won't let anyone in or out on the only road in except to evacuate. Lookin at my boat's camera, there are some campers around the marina who have stayed.
Hoping soon we will be able to go up there and check on the boat.

Re: Battery drained

I will second "Be Free" info on the A/B/All switch. That is a good theory. My batteries have the negative poles connected and the positive are isolated into "house" and "starter" batteries. I suppose you could try disconnecting the flat battery and connect the charger d...

Re: Wildfire near our marina

Fire is up to 11,000 acres. Fortunately it’s moved more north. The road to the marina is closed so we can’t go up there

Boat and marina is safe for now.

Re: Battery drained

That is progress.

So the charger was reading 20amps? I wonder where those Amps were going.

What is the voltage of the battery?

Re: Diode for anchor/masthead light

I didn’t want to pull another wire through the cabin. Just put a diode in one side of one of the fixtures. That is if the LEDs are not behaving like diodes. Plus deck fittings. Since it is not legal to have both anchor light and steaming light it works great. All I had to do was add a DPDT switch by...

Re: Diode for anchor/masthead light

Test your current LEDs. By definition, they are diodes and will only work with polarity that is correct. I wired steaming and anchor light with the same 2 wires and reverse the polarity to toggle between them. Now some LEDs are not polarity sensitive. I don't understand how that works, but my anchor...

Re: Battery drained

But the output from the charger converter has 0. Nothing registered at the batteries either. Confirmed the fuse on the converter charger is good. This is some good diagnostic data. No power out would indicate the charger is failed. However, did I see in a previous post it was reading 20 amps? "...

Re: Leaking Ballast Tank Idiocy - 26X

Ah...so you were drilling into the liner and hit the spot over the ballast.

What a story. My thinking is that if the gate valve on the transom was closed, only ballast water should leak into the cabin. Although that's still a lot of water.

Clever and lucky you had a means to pump it out.

Re: Battery drained

I had a picture someplace but can't find it and of course the boat is 90 minutes away. I don't have an A/B/All switch. Every other boat I've owned had the A/B/All/Off switch and EVERYTHING was connected to that switch so you could disconnect EVERYTHING or share both batteries with everything. That m...

Re: Wildfire near our marina

They evacuated our marina. Fire is getting bigger. My son asked me if the boat is insured.

Well at least we can watch it live until the cell tower goes out.

Re: Battery drained

Sounds like the charger is getting juice and putting out 20 amps to the batteries. So that's good news. From the photos, it looks like it's directly connected and the A/B All switch position doesn't matter. The tags on your batteries indicate they are 3 years old which should still have some life un...

Re: Stock 08’ 26M Forestay Length?

BWY has a thrust bearing replacement for the bronze washers at the base. Mine have been in place now for 10 years and surprisingly are still in good condition. It made a big difference. Also, not overtighting the bolt is key. I have the standard forestay. I did replace it once because the strands at...
