At the risk of being trite.... A picture (or two) is definitely worth a thousand words. Thanks for posting the pics. I've got a better idea of your system now and can't wait to give it a try. Now, would you work on the weather down here? :) We've had a miserable weekend on the Gulf Coast! Thanks a b...

Ive been looking for such a system:

Please post pics ASAP...I've had a very hard time raising the main solo in all but lightest winds. I fall off to one side or the other and getting tight tension on the halyard becomes impossible, resulting in a really lousy sail shape.

Thanks!

Just judging from the amount of time it took with the pump, I would say it was 3-5 gallons: enough to really get my attention and make me think something awful was wrong!

I'm fairly certain it was salt water. This one may just remain a mystery until it happens again!

Update.... We motored around Sunday after drying out the boat. I emptied and refilled the ballast without incident. I left the ballast full when we returned to the slip, and the transom valve slightly open in case there was some pressure buildup that was causing the leak. I checked first thing this ...

Water in Cabin from Ballast Tank??

I put my 1998 26X into a slip yesterday. To my knowledge the previous owner always trailered the boat. The ballast was full when I left the boat at about 5 pm yesterday, and the transom gate valve closed. The vent plug is brand new and adjusted to be very tight. This style filling system DOES NOT ha...

removing decals, etc.

I also had very good luck using a standard hair dryer...I used a PLASTIC putty knife to get several really old decals off. I then used denatured alcohol thinner to loosen the old adhesive left on the surface. I finished up with some rubbing compound. None of this seemed to hurt the gel coat, and it ...

CB Removal

The CB on the 98 26X that I just purchased had probably never been removed until I decided to check the condition of the hanger/SS cable. After removing the nut that holds the hanger in place, I removed the sealant with a utility knife and tapped the hanger bolt under the seat with a rubber mallet. ...

I rechecked the hull number when I got home last night... Boat has a manufacture date of Sept. 97, 1998 model though ("I798"). The vessel has a lot of extras: beautiful spinnaker (never sailed with one...must learn now!), stainless grill, skis, wakeboard, VHF, mast raising, etc... I think ...

Thanks!

Duane, Andy, and Randy,

Thanks for taking the time to write your replies. Duane, your web site is very helpful too!

I must, in fact, have one of the "tweeners": I have the starboard side transom valve, single step-mounted flip-valve vent.

I don't have the exact hull number with me (I'm at work), but I'm pretty sure it had a "98" in it somewhere which, I'm assuming, meant it was mfg. in (early?)'98. The step with the ballast controls is a small fiberglass pedestal just below the hatch. Another platform covers (screws into pl...

A few questions from a new owner of '98 26X

I just purchased a 98 26 X with a 50 HP Johnson. 1.) The documentation that the original owner had mostly seems to refer to the '97 model. In fact the water ballast controls on my boat are completely different from the "manual" (30 pgs. of photocopies), showing a "filling valve" ...

towing with a 2000 Grand Voyager (3.3 L )

I just purchased a 98 26X on Friday in Meridian, MS. Towed it the first 90 miles towards the MS Coast with an '04 Armada (10,000 # capacity). Didn't even know the Mac was back there. Stopped off about halfway home where my friend lived and changed vehicles. I towed it the rest of the way (~90 more m...
