Re: Check your tyres (tires)
Yes, I have a similar recent story. When I bought my boat I'd read a bit about the original fabric tyres and decided early to put on some steel radials. Being a bit new to the game, I fitted some tyres rated for 850kg at 35psi. They were fine for short distance towing around town, and thats how we u...

Re: Adding a tiller
hey nick, Thought about it. Had a good discussion about options maybe 2 years ago on this site. I was initially keen on rotating the pedestal, or moving it offcentre so there would be more room to get around it on the starboard side. Eventually I decided this was too much trouble and expense for me....

yes, the context of each individuals situation is different. Up until recently, we lived just 3 minutes drive to the ramp. So, never used to bother with the trailer light bar either. But, when previously living so close I routinely did also do everything single handed (all except retrieving the boat...

Ray, Gee I stopped timing myself quite a while ago, but 30 -35 minutes is about it. The detail of what this includes goes as follows. 1. Boat is packed and fueled up ready to go before I leave home. 2. Drive to the ramp - 20 minutes. For a short trip, I use no hold down strap over the cockpit. So, n...

Hey Peter. 2 hours for rigging is no good. Practice will help, but, I found it absolutley necessary to make a few small mods. I take about 30 minutes (no furler). My boat was the '04 26M and it had a pogo stick to support the mast. This was a hopeless arrangement and was one of the first things to d...

Roll the jib. I took the cheap option and had a sailmaker put in a set of extra reefing points for the hank on jib. So, it does in fact roll up at the bottom, and get tied in position. This reduces sail area nicely, but does take a little time to set up. Its not something we do on the run. For examp...

Arrh......Nelson.......lovely, but windy. .....you get to sail in the Marlborough Sounds ? Thats on my list, along with lake Waikeiremoanna ! as well as Whitsundays and Gippsland on my side of the ditch. OK. Reefing the main helps a lot - I have 2 reefing points on the main. Its very easy to overpow...

Reberlein, Yes....I have the 2004 M. It sails reasonable, but I usually see the backend of most other sailing boats when sailing. Especially in very light conditions - but I've not invested in a cruising sheet or larger genoa either. In more moderate conditions I think it does better and did manage ...

Hey Grimo, Yeah I'd be a bit careful about deck strength. I put a little swing down ladder on the port side at the bow. The flex in the deck was a bit, so I needed to modify the ladder to make the botton step push against the side of the hull - that took care of the twisting moment which was flexing...

Very sobering story. Appreciate your sharing it with us Fran. Have been knocked flat in my previous trailer sailer, but not in the Macgregor. Pretty scary when the sails are laying in the water and waves washing in the back. Anyway, that porthole looks a bit of concern. I've had a bit of a go at the...

Hey Simon. That ladder is load bearing. I had mine out to install the rear shelf and got a bit of a surprise when it came time to put the ladder back in. It did go back in, but it definitely carries some load, more so with a cockpit full of people. Catch up with you in a couple of weeks at Lake Maqu...
