Re: The time has come...to say goodbye

Thanks to all for the well wishes. I hear you about holding onto some boating gear. I've pulled a bunch of it to save. The admiral has whispered that maybe we'll get a new boat in 2-3 years. However...gasp...she says she wants a power boat next!! She doesn't love the "chore" of sailing. I ...

The time has come...to say goodbye

I was hoping the day would never come but with children, a new home and an admiral who wants a break from the seas, it's time to say goodbye to my dear Chameleon. I've had her for nine fun seasons but my MacGregor 26x ownership days are coming to an end. I've just listed her for sale in the classifi...

Re: 26M or 26x ?

Despite the seemingly well-balanced commentary here, it was definitively settled some time ago that the :macx: is far superior to the :macm: 8) 8) 8) 8) So the decision has been made for you. Get an :macx: You should also know it was definitively settled that the white hull is faster than the blue (...

Re: Motor will not tilt down

No, not really. I store it in the up position as I am in a salt water slip. Sometimes it won't go down on the very first try after it has been sitting for any number of days (1, 7, more). Other times it goes down fine at the dock, raise it to go sailing and then it won't go down. It will always go u...

Re: Motor will not tilt down

So I have had a similar problem on a 50hp Mercury Bigfoot 4-stroke. Batteries are charged, terminals seems fine. It will go up with absolutely no problem. I get nothing (not even a sound) when I try to go down. Haven't been totally stuck yet though. If I wait 20 minutes it will go down again. This h...

Re: My X lists to port.

Mine has always listed as well but to Starboard. It lists about three degrees. I chalked it up to the real head I installed when I got the boat (being porcelan with a holding tank).

Re: Cruising Log of the Murrelet - A fantastic Journey

Oh lord!! Not again. If Frank sees this post it will take months to get him off this board again. I'm convinced Murrelet doesn't actually exist and Frank lives in land-locked Iowa. No one who actually sails would spout what he does.

Re: Mercury 50 low and idle speed problems

That is interesting. Now I am wondering if I have the same problem and it isn't my carbs. It does sound just like my behavior. let me know how it goes. How much is the part? Is it easy to install?

Re: Winter Storage Question

Thanks for the tips. And I envy all you warm weather sailors (of course you are missing out on the amazing experience of 40 degree November sailing days, with 35 degree salt spray in your face. You can't beat it :D I actually don't have any through hulls below the water line. I always winterize my w...

Winter Storage Question

So I am finally taking the plunge and leaving my X in the water this winter (Long Island Sound in full salt water). My club has deicing fans, etc. My quandry is this. I never leave my 99 Mercury 50hp Bigfoot down in the water when in my marina (always locked in the up position). This keeps it from g...

Re: Mercury 50 low and idle speed problems

Hi, I have the same motor and had the same exact problem. I was told these models have very, very tiny fuel channels to the carbs (sorry for the lingo...I'm not a mechanic). I guess they clog quite easily. At higher pressures at higher speeds everything runs greats. At low or idle speed at lower pre...

Anyone near their boat for a quick measurement

I searched and searched past posts and can't find the dimensions for the under-cockpit/aft berth anywhere. Is anyone near their 26x (or their aft cushions for that matter) for a quick and rough measurement? I need to order some of those dry-dek tiles for the area (see past post about troublesome lea...

I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of dealing with a tarp while in the slip (yes I am extremely lazy). When on land in the winter it is tarped and stays dry as a bone. With a six week old baby in the house now I just don't have the time to try to find the leaks again and as I said since it i...
