Re: Catalina Trip
Catalina is always a wonderful destination. Highly recommend Two harbors over Avalon. If I remember correctly, the string line is only about $21 nightly and is swimming distance from the beach for the dogs, kids and Theos. Also highly recommend motoring over early in the morning. Get comfortable sai...

Re: Gel Coat resin + cavisil ??
Hi guys, Many thanks for the input, especially Judy B and Gyroplanes. I went ahead and mixed a batch of gel coat and Cabo-Sil and it seems to have worked just fine. I have not sanded it all down yet, partially since I had a batch of brew mixed up, I buzzed around the entire boat filling in every ran...

Gel Coat resin + cavisil ??
Hi Guys, Just a quick question, do any of you drill meisters out there know if it is OK to mix plain old fiberglass cavisil with gel coat resin? I removed some old hardware from my transom (mind outa the gutter) and need to fill in about 7 srew holes (see what I mean about the gutter) and some gel c...

Re: steering wander at low motor speeds
Folks! Seems kind of a pain though. Rudders down in marina, then rudders up to get out to open water, then rudders down again to sail. Boy he nailed it. In my oh so humble opinion that is a major price we pay for our boats. The sheer complexity! Add on towing and mast raising, taking the Mac for swi...

Re: top speed Honda 50Hp
Dave, With a 50 horse you should be able to get at least 11 or 12 mph. I would venture a guess that the current owner does not have the engined propped properly. Most standard props (often provided with the engine) are geared too tall to push a boat as large as a Mac. Find out what pitch the current...

Re: steering wander at low motor speeds
Dave,
Get the rudders down. Surprised the owner did ot tell you that. You can get good enough to manuver with them up but don't torture yourself in the beginning. Very good you did sea trials.

Re: Few question on buying an X
Fouzy, Congratulations and welcome aboard. I wish I had read this thread earlier. My only piece of advice would have been SEA TRIALS!! Since it is to late for that, see if you can get another Maccer (preferably with an X) from your area to go with you the first time or two just to let you know if sh...

Re: Mead Madness and Fall Flotilla Sails on Lake Mead NV
Ahoy Meaders, No other brag photos? I finally got some pics off my son's camera. Enjoy. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/Stiftl/Mead%202011/Maccers/DSCF1068-crp.jpg Middle Point, pretty much the middle of the lake. Before the night was through we had seven boats in that cove. My thanks to all ...

Ron & Cindy, If you plan on going out of Alamitos Bay, Davies launch ramp, give me a quick PM with your email. I consider myself a "local" at Alamitos and can give you guys some advice that will ake your lives much more pleasant. Alamitos is actually a very nice litle harbor with many ...

Ahoy Mad Meaders, It was great fun meeting you all on the lake and I have some preliminary pics to share. Later we will have to PM to swap some photos directly. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/Stiftl/Mead%202011/Maccers/P4190032-crp.jpg That's Temple Bar Marina, I guess with the Temple in the...

Re: Just Purchased 26M
Actually, the real problem with the PCH bridge in Newport is that it is a pain to get to the other side from the harbor. That is where the lobster shack is. Bon Appetit. When you are a bit more experienced Newport is a fun Harbor to get a mooring at also. It is big enough you can play inside the har...

Re: Just Purchased 26M
Welcome aboard! I suggest Dana Point over Newport for a first launch. There is no PCH bridge to cross under before raising the mast. I have heard Dana Point can be a very friendly harbor for a Mac. Call them up and inquire about guest slips and moorings. Lots to do on shore too. Being on the open Pa...

Re: Mead Madness and Fall Flotilla Sails on Lake Mead NV
Ahoy Meadsters, First off Capt. Kimo, thanks for the link to your maps. I was able to find them and print them out for reference. Newell, I wish I could take you up on your offer, I could use help but I have a full boat. You need to check it out. I have actually been ordered to bring the boogie boar...

Re: Mead Madness and Fall Flotilla Sails on Lake Mead NV
Ahoy Capt. Kimo, Thanks for the heads up on the Hemenway (Henway?) ramp. When we were there last April, I was feeling pretty smug knowing my Mac only needed 9" of draft. A few tow vehicles were easily 10 feet out onto the lake to get their boats floating. I think we should be OK though. Accordi...
