I'm not an expert but I've been working with AGMs and standard flooded electrolyte-type batteries for about twenty years in a variety of aeronautical and industrial applications. AGMs are excellent if you can achieve the following: 1. Filter the charging ripple to less than 4%. 2. Avoid depth of dis...

I have also purchased a Plastimo tank for under the rear berth on our 26M. I am planning to install a deck fill in a vertical section of fiberglass near the transom. Since the relocated water tank will be located between the integral water ballast channels, I propose that this mod will increase the ...

Sailing on Slave Lake
Marc, were you sailing on Slave Lake? If so, that lake is famous for huge waves, correct? How long is the lake and what are typical max wave heights? Sure looks like a nice place to sail! A friend on mine sailed his 26X on Lake Athabasca a few years ago and he claims that he encountered 15-20 ft wav...

Thanks for the comments and thoughts. I've ordered a 26 gal tank and will post a note after experimenting a bit. Is it possible that from a static stability viewpoint additional weight is best applied towards the rear? And, when considering dynamic stability, is additional weight best applied at the...

Water Tank Locations on a 26M
Has anyone tried putting a Plastimo flexible water tank under the rear berth on a 26M? How about the port side under the galley? Under the rear berth there appears to be about 6 inches of heighth available and plenty of width and length. The location would be excellent from a stability viewpoint. Th...

Wilderness Sailing - Williston Lake
In case anyone is interested in a bit of solitude sailing, there is a remote lake in northeast British Columbia called Williston Lake. The lake is about 684 sq. miles and is the ninth largest freshwater lake in the world. We recently purchased a new M-model and plan to sail on the lake this summer. ...

Jib/Furler Question
My wife and I just purchased a new Model M and then towed it for 17 hrs northward to get home. It is our second MacGregor, the first one being a Model X about five years ago. The new boat has the optional factory furler and we would really appreciate an answer to the following questions: 1. Can the ...
