Re: Remember Me (stay logged in) and secure
I just re-found the sight last night. My favorites page was delivering me to "Page not found" message and I had to go the Google route to get to the new page (I had about a week at Thanksgiving of no computer access, the change appears to have occurred then). I'm that computer guy who only...

Re: '89 26D missing bulkhead
I don't know about buying one. If Blue Water Yachts hasn't got one, I doubt that anybody does. I just looked at my D and I am sure that my forward bulkhead is original, it is simply 1/2" plywood, with either vinyl or Formica installed to impersonate wood. I doubt that it is even marine plywood ...

Re: Venture 222 goose neck hardware missing???
That looks like the gooseneck on my old V-25. The boat had a "Roller Furling" boom. I will bet that the main sheet on yours attaches (or did at one time) to the far aft end of the boom and had provisions there of some sort for rotating also. On my boat the bolt that fit in that hole filled...

Lots of people have spent a lot more for a lot less boat! Have fun and keep us informed.

Re: Venture 21 questions from a novice
I have no experience with the V-21, so take all with a grain of salt. My older boat was an early 70s V-25. So, for what is is worth: Don't worry about the roller furling gooseneck. The system was not very good (in fact, it was terrible!) If you don't have them already, a good sail loft can add reef ...

26D Mast Raising system
I'm finally putting together the MRS on this older 26D. Roger used an S hook in to the center mounted forward cleat to attach the pulley system going back to the gyn pole. That is fine except that I have not used that cleat for anything in the time I've owned the boat. Has somebody been using the or...

Re: A starter boat?
Thanks Boat! I'm going to show your post to my wife in yet another attempt to get her to go to Catalina with me. When we lived in Phoenix, we took our Mac 25 over there once every other year or so (on the trailer to the coast, of course). Now she isn't comfortable on the 26D on anything bigger than ...

Re: Continued Water Leaks
I don't wish to hijack this thread, but when you talk about Butyl Tape do you mean the gray or light green putty that one can buy at True Value or Ace? Or is there a particular "marine" Butyl tape?

Seadoc, Tomfoolery is right, I never needed to remove the fittings, just the cover plates on the deck

Re: Common leak locations on 1985 Mac 25 and rub rail advice
I had a mid 70s Venture 25, which was the same boat, and fixed nearly all of my water ingress problems by re-sealing around the chain plates. It looks like a small area, but it is amazing how much water will pour in there during a driving rain. It is a pain to remove the metal ring and you have to g...

Re: 1985 Mac 25 deck coring
On my Venture 25 (Older version of the same boat) I remember that most of the deck was solid, and I seem to remember some plywood being laminated in the area around the mast tabernacle. At my age memory is a dangerous thing, but I am sure there was nothing on the deck comparable to todays coring, su...

Re: Sealing Windows with 3M VHB Heavy Duty & Dow Corning 795
I have just gotten the windows for my 26D, and the 795 Silicone sealant, from BWY. I would like to paint the gelcoat behind the plastic, but not cut out, a flat black. Would the RTV seal to a Krylon type flat black paint? Or does it need to stick to pure Gel-coat?

Re: Anyone replace the hatch cover handle?
I have had 3 Macgregors, from a V-25 up to my current 26D, and have sailed on almost every model built. None ever had a handle on the hatch from the factory. I would say that you can remove that handle, take it to the hardware store to match up the mount holes, and replace with anything that looks g...

Re: I should know this...but....
Unless you are talking about the "baby stays". Those attach about 4 or 5 feet up the mast and to the roof of the cabin. They are only for supporting the mast when using the "one man mast raising system".
