Re: Weak links in the macgregor

https://youtu.be/0UlLHiKF6to Is the drogue I have and I had fiorentino go over the specs of a macgregor in regards to weight size freeboard winches attachment points to try to find a perfect size drogue that could work for our boats in the event of rudder failure....naturaly our boats use the small...

but not real happy with the propane kicker
Who would be 8) Just way over complicates things on your boat. If it was the sole engine on a smaller sailing boat then yes but for a auxiliary motor :?:

Re: 140lb 9hp long tail motor for emergency kicker?

I've thought about a kicker on the back of our :macm: , especially when we are forced to use the motor in no wind conditions at sea. I never think about it until we get out of sight of land. I have never seen a :macm: with a kicker on the back. I've checked the mods, but never seen one there either...

Re: Motoring with just the rudders?

Or in Yamaha's case a water pressure sensor that registers speed on the Command Link 8) Wow that's cool and interesting too. My BF50 has a built pressure line for a speedo senor on the front of the gearbox. Don't know where it goes and I've never given it a second look because in the bad-old days (...

Re: Tech question, small engines

If you are referring to Evinrude XD oil then no. The reason Evinrude ETECs can reduce the oil consumption using XD100 is they use a stratified injection of the oil into the crankcase there is no direct mixing of the oil and fuel. I have found my 2 stroke kicker gets smokey when using stale fuel that...

Re: Motoring with just the rudders?

It's too easy now days to look at a GPS Speedo and think you know whats happening but it's that old spinning wheel on the Triducer that tells the truth in the water. 8) Or in Yamaha's case a water pressure sensor that registers speed on the Command Link 8) http://www.psndealer.com/powersportsdlr/im...

Re: Motoring with just the rudders?

I do this quite a bit when I am solo and don't have time to muck around reconnecting the motor link. You need about 2 knots of through water speed to get any meaningful steering happening, not ground speed as if you are moving at the same speed with the current you have no flow over the rudders so n...

Re: Weak links in the macgregor

I would not worry about rudders much. I doubt an :macm: or an :macx: could be successfully steered with a drogue anyway. You have a lot of redundancy in the steering, 2 rudders plus the motor. I would much rather fashion a dinghy oar into a sweep to steer the boat if I somehow I lost both rudders an...

Re: 12 volt cooler or refrigerator

Back when part of the conversation was about needing heat exchangers and where to put them on a Mac... Here's something for your mind to noodle on... rudders, or centerboard! Make one of the rudders, or the cb to also function as a heat exchanger for fridges or whatever else. I know it's a wacky id...

Re: 12 volt cooler or refrigerator

What you need is a proper heat exchanger with a fan to cool the water before it re-enters the tank No what you need is proper marine refrigeration that uses a water cooled condenser, the water is pumped in and then overboard using the whole ocean as your heat sink :) Problem is they are very expens...

Re: 12 volt cooler or refrigerator

Really, a thousand bucks is not going to give me a heart attack for the reefer and that snowmaster thing looked great, but I really want something small - do they make a snowmaster that is not so huge? They do but you end up with a SECOP compressor as the SnoMaster compressor is a 66watt beast desi...

Re: 12 volt cooler or refrigerator

As RIS noted, the Engel coolers are probably the best you can buy, though they are pricey. They cool well, are noiseless and use less energy than any other cooler you'll likely ever find. They have the added advantage of fitting nearly perfectly under the dinette seat of the 26X. There have been a ...
