Uh oh what did I do

Post by Starscream » Fri Jun 05, 2020 10:21 am

I just bought a Mac25 via WhatsApp virtual tour. Lol.

Trailer looked great, boat was super clean inside, don't know if the Johnson will run or not.

$1,000 cdn. One boat buck exactly.

The plan is to clean it up and flip it. Famous last words.

You may end up keeping because it sails so well.

You’ve just purchased a classic excellent sailboat. Be certain to use it. Your Johnson will likely be easy to get running. And parts are available. Info is available on-line for DIY. ( I’m self taught). Or find a senior who likes to putter with boats!!! Enjoy.

Thanks!

I'd love to keep it but two boats is not an option. This is totally a flip, maybe I'll get to sail it once or twice.

I'll pick it up in a couple of days. It looked super clean, and the trailer was aftermarket and in very good shape (on the video). I decided to buy it when I saw how the sails were packed away for storage. Meticulous.

When we bought Bear Hunt, we sold our Siren 17 for $2k, and that was nowhere near what this boat seems to be. So it seems like a low risk venture. Until the whole thing blows up on the highway home, I guess.

Sound like a good deal. Depending on: Year built, overall condition, equipment, (sails, hardware, interior shape, cushions, etc.) What part of country. There is a glut of sailboats on the market right now. I would think a minimum of $2000 to $2500 as a starting point. Send pics.

Curiouser and curiouser. I'm going to pick up the boat tomorrow or Wednesday. Now I'm not sure what it is anymore.

Add said Mac 25.
Owner says 1974 Macgregor Venture sloop serial number MACE10310174, length 24'11"

There's only 1 window on the side; it sure looks like a 222. I wonder?

Venture 2-24 is the leading guess right now. Anyone know for sure?

Confirmed, it's a MacGregor 2-24. Towed it home today.

It's a nice little boat. The 1974 Johnson 6 started right up after 2 years in storage. I'm going to post it at my Marina and this website for $2,500, figuring that people I like should get a good price. I'll put it on my local classified for $4k and see what happens. There's a venture 222 posted for $5k nearby, so he's gonna (not) love me.

The trailer lights didn't work, so towing home was a bit stressful. One of the lights is kind of hanging off at an angle, and I had to drive through a speed trap on the highway service road. I was expecting to be pulled over, but nope.

And...sold.

My first foray into boat-flipping yields a couple of boat bucks on the positive side...unheard of!

That boat looks very clean. Good job on the flipping. I hear it's addictive.
