Photos - Summer 2019

Post by Starscream » Fri Jan 17, 2020 11:33 am

Every year at about this time I create a thread and ask everyone to post their favorite photos of the past summer (or current summer for our down under friends).

Son 1 in the foreground, sons 2 and 3 playing on the beach behind Bear Hunt, on Lac des Deux Montagnes, Quebec.
Image

Bear Hunt tied up at Basin Harbor, Vermont, with NY state just across Lake Champlain. The lake gets fairly narrow in places, less wide than the St. Lawrence River in many areas. And, if you have a Mac in the area and haven't been to Basin Harbor with it, I couldn't recommend it enough. Just fantastic. Pricey, but not overly so. A cabin there rents for $400 to 500 per night, so $100 for the Mac is a relative bargain.
Image

The admiral, in command. Is it sexist to say that a woman who CAN...who DOES, who CHALLENGES the things that scare her is just the most awesome thing ever?
Image

BTW, you can see the solar panel power cord running down the backstay. Panels are mounted with velcro on the bimini top, and wire goes in through the motor cable gland.

Talk about a timely coincidence - I'm reading the latest Jack Reacher book, Blue Moon, and a female character just said, "Someone once told me that every day a woman should do something that scared her."

Weird.

I wish I had pictures from this summer, but my big trip this year was driving my new Sprinter tow vehicle up from Dallas. Alone.

Hmm, maybe I should have started a "Peaches" thread.

The admiral after 25 years of marriage, four kids, and totally 'au naturel' after three days of mac-camping. Been together since she was 18.

Let's see some photos!

Here is Bear Hunt with the legend, the one and only, the Jill Kristy.

Fun times!

I had the pleasure of being a passenger on the Jill Kristy during her run through the Lachine Canal locks in Montreal. Nice to not be the skipper for once. No pressure.

Having a hard time getting you guys to post photos! C'mon!!!

There are a few things I enjoy more than looking at boat photos in the middle of the winter. Not many though.

Some marinas we have been to frown on hanging laundry from the lines...lol. Don't let US in. This is the marina equivalent of standing room only:
Image

Love the simplicity of dropping the mast. I recently received my extended mast-crutch pole from BWY so that we can leave the Bimini in place with the mast down. In the Lachine Canal in Montreal:

Well, this is from the summer before, in Cape Cod. I like it so much it's the locked-screen wallpaper on my iPad. Me, the admiral, and our granddaughter. 32 years and counting, by the way.

Two anchors, since the current was pushing the boat to where it would be broadside to the significant boat wakes in the very close, very narrow channel at Nauset Beach. Only accessible by boat, therefore not many people besides us. 8)

I made my own from a 1 ft length of old spreader tube to space it up a foot, and a 2 ft length of galvanized pipe inside both to provide the structural (bending moment) support. Both bits reside in my galley storage cabinet.

It's been a couple years since I've come by the site. I've been busy sailing.
Here are a couple photos from my 2019 summer in Georgian Bay.
All in I spent over a month on the boat in Georgian Bay. Half with the family and half single handing. A great summer was had.
I'll be doing it again this summer!

Not too many trips on the boat this year. We had planned a trip down the Columbia River from our home (The Port of Camas/Washougal) to Astoria, but there were some nasty storms that moved through the weekend that we were planning to go. Therefore we took a day trip up the Columbia River Gorge to Beacon Rock.
Found this little bat when we raised sails. It's new home is somewhere near Horsetail Falls.

Here's a shot with Beacon Rock in the background.

My wife and I celebrated 20 years in October. Here she is near Rooster Rock State Park.

That's a pretty long trip. Too bad you couldn't go.

If you ever go the other way, to or through the Cascade Locks, there's a butt-ugly gray-painted crane bolted to a 10 ft diameter beer can. I did that. Or parts of it, many many many moons ago. :D
