Installing new windows

Post by Maraquita »

I am changing the purple windows on my early model 26D. After getting the old ones off of one side, it appears that they are, indeed, glued on with some sort of Silicone sealant (mine is either translucent or white, but no matter). The sealant is still very soft and adhered very well to the Gelcoat, it was the plastic window that released. So, has anyone stumbled on an easy way to remove this from the boat? Or is elbow grease and a plastic scraper the only way to go?

Also, do you see any problem with painting the gelcoat under the new window black? Probably would just use a rattle can unless you all agree that it would affect the adhesion of the new sealant (I'm using the black adhesive from BWY)
