Considering some bigger access hatches for storage

Post by Chumpy36 »

I really need to make use of all the storage I can manage as I'm a pack rat and like spares and tools on hand.

I'm considering enlarging two areas to make putting in some rubbermaid bins easier.

Under the starboard side settee, and in the v berth area as well as a new hatch on the bulkhead near the head door.

My thought was to make the existing hatch openings bigger and put in a larger hatch over that entire area but was wondering if I would get too much flex or have any structural issues.

Thoughts?

I’ve found that the boats become dogged out if you put too much stuff on them. Mine really has more storage than weight carrying ability.

I installed three hatches for easier access

I had to add a wedge shim on the bottom of the two bigger hatches as the port side storage wall curves down near the floor

this smaller one I installed on the left side of the sliding Galley

Hope this gives u some idea,s as to what u can do , I got these hatches on sale for like 2/3 off because they had some cosmetic imperfections was a sweet deal & the colour matches the cushions pretty good

Door under the V-berth is great. No need to move cushions to access.

Here's my mod for that:

I also made another hatch next to the existing one at the galley bench. I did do some reinforcement around that.
The key to inner peace is to admit you have a problem and leave it at that.

Highlander, that little one on the side of your galley is brilliant! Time to look for a hatch sale
