Not too many trips on the boat this year. We had planned a trip down the Columbia River from our home (The Port of Camas/Washougal) to Astoria, but there were some nasty storms that moved through the weekend that we were planning to go. Therefore we took a day trip up the Columbia River Gorge to Beacon Rock.

That's a pretty long trip. Too bad you couldn't go.

If you ever go the other way, to or through the Cascade Locks, there's a butt-ugly gray-painted crane bolted to a 10 ft diameter beer can. I did that. Or parts of it, many many many moons ago.

I've sailed on a friend of a friend's J42 out of Cascade Locks, but haven't taken our boat there yet. We might trailer up and sail down someday.

We had set aside 4 days for the Astoria trip. I'm working on a plan to try it again this year. We're hoping to fit it in July or August so that we have a better chance at good weather.

I know it looks like all we ate was chips, but that's a week's stock with 3 kids on board. I was cooking up brocolli&chicken pasta, trying to keep some semblance of healthy eating. Admittedly on our trips our standards fall, and we eat crappier than usual.

Looking at the picture, there are a couple of things worth commenting on. One is the carbon monoxide detector in the bottom left: AA battery powered, lasts 10 years, and totally worth it. We have another 12V always-on CO2 and propane detector in the aft berth port side, down near the feet area, powered from the main battery bank.

The table leg was changed from the original to this: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0016N ... UTF8&psc=1. It was almost like it was made for the Mac: I had to cut off a couple of inches, but the attachment point to the table itself was exactly the right size. Fast and easy to convert to sleeping quarters, now.

The cargo nets that we use for food and toys are these: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01G4T ... UTF8&psc=1. I attached them to the inner liner using rivnuts: it makes a very strong, stable attachment point. The nets are stretchy so the attachment points need to be farther apart than it seems at first glance.

I appreciate everyone sharing. Ours didn't touch water last year so it is nice to see the adventures. I am motivated to get spring chores done early so I can focus on the boat!

One of the many neat things we did in Canada on our 2019 Loop was the Marine Railway near the end of the Trent Severn Waterway almost to Georgian Bay. We are waiting for the big yellow railway car to enter the water so we can drive on.



We are floating over the car and they are raising the straps to hold us in place.



We are moving up the hill, you can see us resting in the straps. That is a 46 foot power Catamaran behind us.



We are on the down hill leg which is much longer.


Having lived in Florida most of my life we really enjoy Canada in the Summer.

Marine railway is in my bucket list. What a cool trip.

Can't compete with that. But thought I'd throw something out for you guys that are looking at snow. Usually don't take pics when I go, but went several times with my buddy on his Potter19 and took a few shots. We leave from Dog River and go out under the Dog River Bridge. If the wind is decent, we usually take a loop around Gaillard Island to check out the pelicans and whatever other birds are trying to coexist with them. Sometimes we get lucky and run into a few marine mammals... It's about a 19 mile (total) trip, and is a nice retirement day activity. We usually pack a lunch and take it pretty easy.

I use the skipper app to estimate my distances. I think it's close based on the time and my impression of speed. My buddy doesn't have a chart plotter or knot meter, so, I can't tell you that the app is spot on. Just seems about right.

Hope to throw the Mac in before too long. I thought retirement was gonna be sailing and tinkering. I'm almost as busy now as I was when I worked.
