My experience of bars is largely on the east coast of Australia and history shows many rivers were navigatable a long way up stream in the past but no longer. Most now have training walls which interfere with the natural movement of sand....mostly to the north.Big permanent sand bypass projects which in themselves have caused problems are feature of a number of rivers and others require regular dredging. Its a good day out when big seas are running to visit some of these bars and see mother nature doing its thing....I guess on the north coast of NSW rainfall and the resultant floods also play a big part....seen 16" of rain in a little more than 24hours puts things in perspective......all this adds up to our decision to have a trailer boat and if I had the money would probably consider the IMEXUS/ODIN/MACKMAN....but then again if had money...lots of it I'd have Porsche Ferrari and a Lambo maybe 7 different ones one for each day of the week

If it were me, I'd go for the outboard version to keep the below-decks room, and to allow the lower unit to clear the water. Up to 130 hp outboard, 140 hp inboard.

It appears the extra two feet has been dedicated to the swim deck which is in turn eaten by the raised outboard…but I really can't seem to find where they've hid the extra seventy grand ?(give or take a little) I'm not a fan of the interior layout, but it is a good looking boat from the outside and yup it sure moves.

It would be more cost-effective for me to upgrade to a 90 hp, sell my BF50, and enjoy that fact that I only spent $15k as it sits, on a 2-axle trailer, though I did replace the brakes and lights (pocket change as costs of boat ownership go).

In Practical boat owner (a UK magazine) they did a test report in 2007 with the Mac 26m against the Imexus 27 and the Tide 28, all three are Power sailors. But the Tide is more of a sailboat with lead keel & offshore capabilities that will plane with big enough engine.
In July 2007 there was £4,000 between the cost of a Mac & Imexus (both excluding engines).
I do have a PDF of the article but do not know how to put it on here it is 4.5 meg. If anybody wants a copy I can try to email it, but it may be too large for some email providers.
There is also another Power Sailor called the Ledgend 27 Which is built in Poland that was also reviewed by PBO, but on its own not up against the Mac.

The Legend is a beautiful, but much heavier and more expensive boat.

MacTommy wrote:In Europe, these boats are being sold under the brand Odin.
The truth about the Imexus:
The German general importer of the MG boats was very engagad and had his own ideas for the improvement of the :macx: . He contacted the MG-company in California several times and made suggestions for changes and improvements to meet better the requirements for his German customers. In Europe the Polish are known as very experienced boat builders, however as long as the iron curten was down thes suffered fro a lack of good material to build them. The didn´t encounter any reaction for his ideas from MG. When Poland lifted the iron curten a little (about 1997) he took a :macx: to a Polish boat-manufactor, explained his ideas and had them build a boat according to his ideas. This was the birth of the Odin, and it was imported from Poland since than by him. This is it as far I was told by himself.
He started with success selling it in whole Germany. Later on he decided to cooperate with a northgerman :macm: dealer who than started to sell the Odin for a couple of years. For any reason I won´t tell here they got devorced and the northgerman Odin-dealer went to Poland again to build his own boat. That was the birth of the Imexus. That´s it as far as I know from the Imexus dealer.
Now both boats, Odin and the Imexus are competing on the German market. During German boat exhebitions sometimes they are both present, the boats are very similar, but they try to convince You of the advantage of there boats.

Be interesting to see how much they differ from the Mackman last I heard when talking to Phillip who was the sole Mac agent at the time was that they had mothballed it but were looking to build it elsewhere with the moulds.
Bartmac not sure about the bars being caused by cutting down trees? and on many east coast rivers there is not a real lot of intensive irrigation to cut down flows sure there are some dams for water supply but hey we are going to have 50million people here shortly :D and they need to drink regular, some of the rivers running out the west side of cape york were silted up a few years ago too but that was from natural floods absolutely nothing to do with humans. time will tell the true story.
Used to have paddle steamers up and down the Murray Darling but they also used to sit for up to three years at times too.

Thanks for the story 2BonC - didn't know the history before. There is also a Polish boat sold in Canada called TES, and the build quality is astonishing for the price, but I don't believe it's capable of planing (more comparable to the Hake boats). Poland is the yacht-building capital of Europe, apparently.

I still have not seen any boat yet that can do what a Macgregor does (performance, features) at any price*. The weight kills them every time. And I beena lookin' ! :D

*just like when the Ford Focus outperformed the Ferrari in a slalom course a few years back.

Also, from their site, the boat they actually have for sale only has a 17 gallon tank (no idea where they hide it). Not going far with a 90 hp + motor.

Sorry folks I'm also a Mac26X owner but this IMEXUS 28 is NOT really a competitor for a mac......its streets ahead....the finish is first class, solid, well designed and no cost cutting as with the Mac(lets be serious some of the workmanship is second rate...a product of mass production and strict cost saving)but whether its twice the boat, ...probably but then it costs about twice as much in Australia.I certainly can't justify the cost but then again neither can I the cost of a new Mac.Putting a 90hp motor on the back of Mac will not make it come near the 140 hp Volvo Turbo diesel inboard.....but then I don't want a planing sailboat...just a trailerboat, big, roomy, cost effective, able to dropped into any puddle I choose.Tell you though walking around marinas and seeing some of the toys you could live on.....only I'd be by myself....the wife wouldn't join me

Yep for at least twenty years prior to buying the mac had wanted a sailboat but there is absolutely only one boat that I could sell to the wife even the :macx: which I liked better was shot down and must admit I am happy with that now and after seven years would still love to keep the :macm: but getting to the end of the time when I will be able to fit all I want to do before the long sleep it's time for the next saga.
Mind you we do have at least a month planned travelling down the Murray from Yarrawonga to ? and the if it's not sold, up north somewhere ? possibly the Roper or the Kimberlies, most of our little adventures would never have happened if not for a boat like the :macm: and probably not on a Mackman or an Imexus and certainly not at the same price.
I have thought many times that a bigger motor would be great but the biggest criticism from the Etec dealers when checking the computors is that the 50's have never been opened up and 3000rpm achieved very few times.
