Rigging my assymetrical spinnaker

Post by oceanview2 »

I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions on how to rig my factory option spinnaker.
2012 26M. Never used or rigged a spinnaker. Can't wait to use it.
It is white, blues and green. The factory installed the halyard and block in their proper location below the forestay.
We will prepare it at the dock. Fly it when recommended.
Thanks

I don't have the factory spinnaker but I rigged my assym to a tack line that goes through a rail block on the pulpit down to a stand-up block mounted on the anchor roller then back to a cleat on the cabin top near the starboard winch. That way I have an adjustable tack to fly the kite. I mounted swivel blocks on the rear most stanchion posts for the sheets that feed back through the Genoa blocks to the winches, though I have found that running straight to the Genoa blocks is all that is needed.

I ran my halyard to a hanger about 30cm above the foerstay not below.

I snuff before I jibe or tack. Tried doing the outside sheet but always seem to foul the spinnaker and I am not racing so a snuff and reset is easier. Intend to get a furler this year to replace the snuffer to make it even easier again. Hopefully this gives you a start, there are plenty of other posts about rigging the spinnaker if you do a search of the forum.
Good luck and have fun it is a great option for lighter winds and running 8)

Not sure why it would be below, ours is about 18" above and we use a mini bowsprit off the anchor roller to keep it out in front of the forestay and pretty much as Kadet said for the rest it's my favourite sail.

My headsails are hank-on, so I use the stock jib halyard to raise my stock asym, on my 2000 X and I tack it inside the forestay, treating it like any other headsail.
I have no bowsprit so the asym is blanketed by the mainsail, or luffing, except on a very narrow band of courses. Thus, I usually have the main furled when using the asym. In light winds, I prefer to use full main and my 200 sq. ft. 1.5 oz. drifter, as it gives allows sailing a wider range of courses (close reach thru downwind to close reach) than the asym alone, and the drifter is easier to tack inside the forestay than the asym, and the main/drifter combo gives about the same sail area as the asym alone. So I don't use the asym much.
Eventually, I may try to rig a DIY removable bowsprit and an above-jib-halyard special asym halyard to get the asym out of the main's windshadow, or just sell the asym.
I probably should have not bought the asym years ago, but I did not anticipate the downsides I later experienced and was a less relaxed sailor when younger.

I use the stock jib halyard to raise my asym spinnaker. The tack is secured with a line that runs thru the anchor roller and back to the cockpit. Sheets are setup same as genoa.

This was discussed in a previous thread a few years ago.

Raising
I raise the sail from the bag secured to the foredeck. You need to have the sail packed into the bag in a specific way for this to work. If you need more info on how to do this, try a video search on google.

Ok, I have an X with RF. I use the same line I use to raise my UV sock (forestay halyard). Works fine. 8)
