Who has the oldest Macx boat
Let me introduce myself Mike and Connie here from Houston Texas and we sail primarily down in Port Aransas area where we love the clear water there. Just joined up on the forum. We owned this boat for three years but our first year was spent sanding the bottom. Our model plate number is 0074 I assume that the 74 th boat out of the factory. We love the boat and I like making repairs and upgrades. I have along long to do and want list on this boat. Certainly love reading about our fellow Mac owner here I have sailed and owned mainly beach catamarans sense I A teen.

Re: Who has the oldest Macx boat
You pose an interesting question. Wouldn't it be great if hull number 1 was still out there somewhere. We bought our X new in 2002, which was the last full production year, so we have one of the higher hull numbers for an X. Our hull number is 4853B202. I assume the 202 refers to the year 2002, and that our boat was the 4853rd one produced. We did meet a couple who had a rare 2003 26X while up on Lake Roosevelt. As I understand it, the factory produced a few X boats in 2003, while at the same time rolling out the (then) new 26M model. I wonder who, on this board, has the highest hull number for an X.
Blue Water Yachts used to sponsor an annual rendezvous for Mac owners, somewhere on Puget Sound. They did these for nearly 30 years, and the last one was held about 5 years ago. There was a guy who showed up every year in his classic, which was, I believe, the first Mac Todd and Cheryl ever sold. He'd been coming to the events for more than 20 years.
To add to your question, who out there has owned their Mac the longest? We're in our 19th season, but I'm sure there are others who've been enjoying their Macs for longer than that.

Chinook,
You have hull number 4853 built in February 2002.
I'm a little older with hull 4452 from April 2001. I bought mine used, so you have had yours longer.

Re: Who has the oldest Macx boat
Hello,
We have hull# 0064 built in May of 1995. Ordered from BWY after the Portland Boat Show that January.
IIRC hulls # 1 through 3 were test boats from the factory. One had a hole drilled in the hull for the Coast Guard flotation test. One did not have an interior installed used for sailing performance ballast testing and the last one had all kinds of hacks / modifications done before settling on the final design. I believe Mike Inmon had hull #4 and BWY had hull #5 at the Portland Boat Show, the one we sailed on the Columbia River before ordering ours.

Ours is definately not the oldest, we have hull 5150. What is really interesting is the small differences between ours and friends with ever so slightly older 2002 models.

Re: Who has the oldest Macx boat
Note sure where my boat fits in but here are the details. Purchased my X new in early 1996 following a test drive on boat docked at MacGregor's own house in Newport Beach, CA and a factory tour. My serial number is MACX0783F696. There is also a 421 plate on the hull as well. Is this an old one? Thanks.

Re: Who has the oldest Macx boat
Just passed 10 years with Bear Hunt, hull number 4755L102.
Assume that's hull #4755, first month of 2002 (the last three digits, 102). Haven't figured out what the L is for.

The last four digits represent the month, actual year, and model year of manufacture, so A is January and so on. The next digit is the model year, so 6 is 1996 model year. The last two are the date of manufacture, so 1996.
My last four digits are L102, so she was manufactured in December of 2001, to 2002 model year specs.

Re: Who has the oldest Macx boat
You know, this thread got me thinking:
There have been at least 5,248 MacGregor 26X's manufactured since 1995. One fatal accident that I know of (which was entirely the drunk captain's fault).
Is this the safest boat ever manufactured, in terms of fatalities/boat-hour? Assuming 5250 boats in existence for an average of 17 years, that's one fatality per 781,830,000 boat-hours.
Maybe the M is even better? I haven't ever heard of a fatal accident involving an M, and there are lots of those too.

I have hull number 9, made in 1995. Still going strong. I was told is is a bit thicker and stronger than later models because it was still early in the production cycle. I am just repowering from an original Johnson 60 to a Tohatsu 50. I hope to have many more years left.

We could figure out how many Macs were built by utilizing the German Tank Problem.
