No feedback yet. They stung my PayPal for $25, but then sent a back-order notice.theroche wrote:Bought a tub ... but the only difference was in that my wallet was $25.00 lighter. It may work better on light growth. I'll post the picture when I finish the rest of the projects. Frank like to hear about your results

Should arrive mid-March, unless I contact them and cancel the order.
I tried cheapo foaming bathroom cleaner (maybe Target's brand?) but it didn't touch the very thin layer of dried slime on my hull.
I use Starbrite ''Instant Hull Cleaner" I like it !!

slimy grimy
If I remember correctly, We pulled the boat out derigged and took it back to the house(around the block). I applied the slimy grimy the next day. one section was dry the other was sprayed with the hose. My solution was diluted a suggestion from another person who used it. I hope it works better for you'll

FWIW, I just used Slimy Grimy yesterday afternoon. After I took two friends and their toddlers on a short motorboat picnic I had the rest of the day free for maintenance. A diver had scraped the hull last week, but it already had a green beard and that rusty brown slime at & above the waterline (after almost 2 continuous months in Bay water).
I started this thread with the complaint that NOTHING was working to remove the crusty-hard, stucco-like residue from last summer's 3-week Bay-bath. Here are two answers to that problem:
Dunk it again. After six months on the hard, another few weeks in Bay water and the Stucco turned soft and slimy again. The diver reported it was easy to scrape, centerboard & trunk okay, no blisters. But it looked like H&LL, so I decided to experiment with Slimy Grimy. I only mixed up their one-quart solution in a bucket, then leaned over the dock and sponged the waterline with it. First wipe lightened the brown coating by about 60 percent. Then I went back with a second swipe and the hull shows 96% pure, again! Not only that, but the very slight solution left floating in saltwater seemed to self-clean the area I couldn't reach ... a happy camper, here!
After yesterday's experiment, I'm certain that a tarp under the hull, in the slip, could hold a couple of gallons against the hull and quickly neutralize all slime. But this #2 approach would work well, and lots easier. Saturate the trailer bunks with a little of the SG solution, retrieve the boat and spray the remainder of the hull with solution, then rinse well with fresh water. (Both Chip and NiceAft reported the spray solution worked well). I think a quick boatwash later, the hull would be ready for bottom wax. See my other post regarding the AirDock.

Congrats Frank. Glad it's clean again. I am still pondering several ideas about how to clean my boat bottom while still in the water. I am thinking about getting one of those snuba things so I can go to a shallow spot, anchor, go underneath and clean her off myself once a month.
I have yet to try that trick of raising the boat off the trailer while in the driveway so I could wax the bottom. I have to find some tall stands to support the stern enough to make it work.

According to the instructions on Slimy Grimy, you are supposed to use it while the bottom is wet. If you let the bottom dry first, it is more difficult to use. You are also supposed to use warm water to mix the dry powder. This is hard for some of us who don't have access to hot water at the ramp place. I used cold water last year. On Tue. the 30th I take Nice Aft out for the season. I'll let you know if it works two years in a row. right now her bottom looks like King Kong's left armpit

Well works ok on the hull water line I used a sponge scouring pad, first I wet the hull down, then I used full strength, then I used mixed with hot water, I had to do it a couple of times & rinse off often it did take some of the shine off the hull above the water line, it did not take the hard core stuff off about 1/4" to 1/2" above the water line I'll have to see if theirs something esle I can use
It cleaned up the eng. & rudder nice

Here I cleaned off the port side hull aft section you can really see the diff.

the finnished result

it will do a nice job on the top sides also
Cheers John

I had my boat in the lake for about 5 months and when I pulled it out it also had alot of green on it. I tried to rub it off at the dock with a boat bush but it wouldn't come off. So after I got it home I ordered some SlilmyGrimy and about a week later I got it. I then sprayed down the bottom of the boat with the hose and then used a sprayer to spray the stuff on the boat. I did use hot water to mix the powder with. I let it soak in for a few minutes before I started rubbing it off. I tried using the boat brush, but in the end, it worked better with me laying on my back with a sponge rubbing the green slim off. It worked good, but I still had to put some elbow grease on it. It didn't just wipe off with no effort, but it wasn't a big chore neither. The only thing that made it harder was laying on my back to do it. Wear goggles, hat, and a face mask as well. If you don't, your face will be slimy grimy.

I think Starbrite Hull Cleaner and Slimy Grimy use the same active ingredient ... oxalic acid. The difference is that Starbrite comes in a spray bottle. For a very dirty hull, seems to me that Slimy Grimy is better. You can mix it in a hot solution and also elect to use a heavier concentration.Alex wrote:Frank, what do you think is Slimy Grimy helps in my situation. Last year I used Star Bright and it worked for me. This year boat was 6 months on the water and condition of hull much worst, I tried another cleaning solutions but all didn't work.....
Isn't the Macgregor label above the rubrail? ... how'd your boat get so ugly up around there?
