Motor well not draining.
I found out why my motor well was not draining. The hose was kinked. Not really enough room under it to make a proper bend. I put in a 90 degree fitting to handle it.
Looks like a something I created.

I was just looking at the same problem last night. Now if I figure out how to get the kid to crawl all the way back there. Neither of us like closed places. I was thinking about making the entire hole size larger at the same time and putting a proper scupper in - 10 bucks seems cheap enough.

Mine plugs all the time, all I do is put the hose nozzle in the transom end and turn it to strong stream and backflush it. All the crud comes flying back out into the engine well and I grab a handfull and scoop it out until the water can flow more freely. No need to crawl under there to replace the hose, that's a bit overkill.

That's exactly what I do. Works like a charm.Terry wrote:Mine plugs all the time, all I do is put the hose nozzle in the transom end and turn it to strong stream and backflush it. Just a radical thought ....
Why not just bypass the drain plumbing and Hog-Out the hole to about 2 inch and elbow a dedicated drain plumb to a new hole-thru fitting? I tellya I am getting fed up with that wimpy half inch hole. A real drain would be able to swallow and pass a mole cricket without a problem.
let there be light ....

I just fixed a bad clog with mine also. Loews has a plunger that you pump like a bicycle pump. It creates air pressure and can push or pull your clog out. I even tried to snake the clog but couldn't get enough leverage and the elbo joint was to small to access.
Pump worked great. I fished out a 6" piece of rope and some other crap. Now I know why the snake couldn't get it
The pump's small and shall stay aboard to pump all the drains as needed...

Mine also clogs and I use the water-backflush method as well, though I'm careful with the pressure - I don't want to bust the hose loose inside the boat!
What that drain really needs is some sort of domed strainer, so as the drain catches debris, and the water rises in the well, it will still drain.... something like this, but a lot smaller... anyone know of something like this in a small size?

Now you have me wondering Kevin. In the absence of an actual part being out there, could something be jury-rigged? Maybe the following would work? Cut a piece of double stick carpet tape a half inch larger than the drain opening in the well, and apply it squarely on top of the opening. Using a sharp knife, cut out the opening. Place a piece of screen, cut slightly smaller than the tape, on top of the double stick tape. Then place a piece of duct tape ( with a hole cut out of it) over the whole assembly. Might that be something that works until a more permanent, not labor intensive and structural changing solution is had?

something like this? or if I knew the size/thread of the item pictured, perhaps something like this Perko scupper could be modified
