Raising trailer for larger tires or more clearence

Post by Mark Chamberlain »

I just extended the rear leaf spring shackles by 2 inches, this stopped my tires from rubbing the fenders and added clearence so the tires would not rub the side of the boat. cost $20.00 for a welder to make the shackles.
The welder who makes trailers told me the axle in his opinion would be rated for 4500.00 lbs and the springs at 3500. He said I could also change the springs for about 50.00 per side If I wanted more weight cabablitites.
For now I just raised the trailer with the shackles.

I am adding a second axle, labor and all parts is 1125.00 includes two new tires on rims. This will move the load to about 6000lb.
The roads in Alaska are just to rough for the stock trailer.
