Maintenance of CB winch?

Post by Gerry Shimek »

Any idea where I can find info on maintenance of the centerboard winch for a Mac22?

Recently got the boat & am interested in making sure the winch functions properly.

Thanks

Maintenance CB winch

Keep the gears and levers well lubricated with a good quality grease.

I never owned a Mac classic, but I've read many stories of guys doing maintenance, or replacements. (I once subscribed to both the Mac26X and the MacClassic list servers). It's a stock item with 2-way ratchet, so you might find one in an RV store? I do recall that there's H*ll to pay if you ignore maintenance ... if the keel swings free, it can cause a disaster. If nobody here has an answer, you might try a post on Trailer sailor's Mac forum.

Sailnet's Macgregor (not mac26x) list would most likely be able to provide first hand information as well.
