Tension Gauge Converion Scale

Post by phil kelly »

I bought a Loos tension gauge to set my shrouds up, unfortunatly it's a metric one and the tension figures provided for Mac X are in pounds. I took it back to the shop but they were totally unhelpful, said they didn't supply imperial gauges any more and refused to take it back(won't be shopping there again!).
Does anybody know if it's straightforward enough just to convert the scale reading on the gauge from kilogrammes to pounds IE, scale reading 40 = 164 KG multiplied by 2.2 = 360 lbs (1KG = 2.2lbs) or are these things more complicated.
I'm not very competent with tension figures and such like and I would be grateful if anybody has any comments before I attempt to adjust my rigging (or pull the shrouds out of the swages!!)

Cheers, Phil UK.

Agree - Steph's right - straight conversion. It's not like foot-pounds or some other compound measure.

Of course, you could then convert to stone, and make things very silly indeed. :D

Thank goodness Canada is totally metric.
As I buy 2x4's and 4x8 sheets of drywall, so I can complete my project at which time I will go drive a few golf balls 200 or so yards. Actaully metric is a lot easier when you do get used to it as everything is a factor of ten.

Not like furlongs per fortnight converted to knots. :D
8 Knots is only 0.22 furlongs/fortnight and 6.5 knots is 0.18 furlongs/fortnight which is only a difference of 0.04 f/f so probably doesn't matter too much. :)

Search the net for 'calculators'.
Lot of sites have 'conversions', where you just enter the figure, and press convert.
Instant accurate answer.
I have to use them all the time.
