Bow Roller Fixing

Post by r.fairman »

Can anyone tell me if the bow roller bolts (Mac 26M) are secured to captive nuts. The bow roller and the anchor came off second best during a storm last year in the the Aegean. The bow roller was distorted but the bolts held and the shank on the anchor was bent into a u shape. Turkish quay 1, roller and anchor nil

If you mean the bow eye (the U shaped hook that you attach to the wire on the trailer, it is held on with locknuts

A bow roller isnt standard equipment in the states, so my guess is you will need to talk to the installer or dealer who sold the boat originally

Ours came equipped with a dinky little bow roller which I replaced with one I made to suit the mac and the anchor I wanted but to answer the original question the bolts just had large washers and nuts which also got replaced with a fixed steel plate and larger bolts (and more) with nyloc nuts with extra bracing above the bow eye.
To access this space you need to remove the cover and then remove the flotation material, this cavity is also handy for routing water fillers etc.

My 07' has two bolts with flat washers and lock nuts holding the bow roller.

The bow roller wasn't standard on the X but is on all late model M's.

I would guess it is installed as most other stuff at the factory is, standard bolts with fender washers and nylock nuts. I would be really surprised if there was a plate in there with captive nuts.

You will have to gain access to the bottom with a wrench while someone else works topside.

my bow roller had the navigation lights welded to it,as they appear to be fitted to all UK boats,i would assume that they are part of the legal requirement over here.
