Evinrude 60 Etec
Gerry Berg has sold his business to Johnsaffodableboats.ca
They are located in Albion, Canada. Phones are the same as Berg's were.
He is using the Evinrude 60 Etec and claims 30 knots and less fuel conumption than a Honda 50????
The prop is much larger (13x13), so I do not know??
Engines are now factory installed and the trailers are aluminum.
Anyone varify that this combination works????????
ModsNote: made minor corrections ~fc

Re: evenrude 60 etech
I can't imagine achieving a speed of 30 knots in a Macgregor 26M with a 60HP Evinrude Etec unless one is travelling down a fast-moving river with the throttle wide-open. Even then, it would be very scary, in my opinion.
My boat is similarly equipped. If I were to strip my boat of the mast and boom, and all sails, and all removeable weight, I think I could hit 20 knots. Maybe he just made a typo.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
I have the Evinrude 60 on my Yam, the best I have seen was 22 mph by GPS. With crew and gear I usually get no more than 21. Perhaps it was a typo.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
Must be a typo. . . . . An Etec seems to be a good motor but I don't think quite that good.
I run over twice that hp and can only acheive 30 knots lightly loaded with a couple of passengers on an X. Typo? yeah, maybe he meant 160 hp!

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
Thanks for the update Bill,
I tried the link, but it didn't work. Gerry's site still includes Macgregor info, so I went to the Macgregor site and checked the dealer listings. They have removed Gerry, and a working link for the new dealer is:
http://www.affordabledreamboats.com/
Albion, might not be too descriptive for most, but it's the Fraser River edge of Maple Ridge, looks like about 6 blocks west of the Albion Ferry, for those that know Greater Vancouver.
I'm curious as to who John is. I'll have to make a point of stopping by as they're just across the river from us.
Regards,
Shane

90 TLDI Tohatsu, have seen 26 knots once. Very light, no ballast, no passengers.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
As a dealer, I report a recent interface we had with the factory regarding 70 HP engines.
A customer of ours wanted a letter from Macgregor authorising us (a certified Nissan engine installer) to install a 70 HP engine on his boat.
They refused to issue this letter for any engine installation over 50 HP of any make.
I acknowledge that Bill at Boats4Sail posted a similar story sometime earlier.
I would be comfortable putting a higher power engine on a Mac with transom reinforcements and also operating it in a prudent manner, but those of you looking for 'factory sanction' should stop looking....
It is true that the Mac M, due to its size, does NOT require a Coast Guard certification plate with a limit on horsepower.

Yes and thank God for that.... don't know if I would like the boat as much without my 75 back there....

In the early 1950's the US Air Force introduced JATO, (Jet Assisted Take Off) and RATO, (Rocket Assisted Take Off), to US fighter-Interceptor aircraft. These were developed in the 1940's by the Brits and Germans.
Maybe this dealer forgot to mention that his Mac's include this item as an optional feature, when one purchases an Etec.

I wonder,... Since theEdge is rated for 75HP, I wonder if Roger will reconsider.Kelly Hanson East wrote:... but those of you looking for 'factory sanction' should stop looking....

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
I Have done some caculations and determined that if the engine could turn a full 5000 rpm that the boat could do 19 knots.
the dealer claims the mac 26m is delivered to him with the evenrude 60 e tech factory installed.
Since the Mac web site only lists the 50 hp e tech, this does not arrear valid.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
The factory and many dealers will install a 50,60, or 70 HP engine.
The point of my post is that you will not get a written warranty for any configuration over 50 HP from the factory.

Re: Evinrude 60 Etec
The original claim was that the 60HP ETEC motor was factory installed.
Unless things have changed when I wan't looking, there has never been any such thing as a factory installed motor of any HP on a Mac. All motors are dealer installed. The Mac factory website price list does not list any motor as a factory option.
And yet despite what KH East says the factory website's first listed feature is "22 mph under power with a 60HP outboard." This doesn't say outboards are factory installed, but it certainly brings into question their policy on warranty of oversized motors. They might just as well claim 50 mph with a 250 HP outboard. Talk about speaking out of both sides of one's mouth!
