keeping pop top up

Post by RNC725 »

just bought an 1991 M26s -- no hardware for keeping the pop top up. I had a 1994 for several years and believe it had a thumb screw and some such.

Ideas, suggestions? Called Macgregor and they said they had none, gave me a number to call, didn't work there either.

Thanks

Hi Bobby. There should be a bracket of sorts that slides in the mast track. The thumb screw size 1/4, 20 to fit in the bracket. I'm using a one and half inch bolt to hold up our top. It has not fallen on our heads yet and does not require the use of a wrench, I just screw it in hand tight. Good luck.

I copied a mod I found here or on the Macgregor Owners site where you can install gas struts (the kind you see on hatch back cars) that I purchased at West Marine. They were 20 inches long and made lifting the top a breeze and held it in place without using the two solid stationary struts that fit from the front deck to the underside of the front of the pop top. My boat is a 1980 25 foot Mac. My wife can now raise and lower the top without my help.

My bracket that "Rod H" mentioned is striped out so i lashed a line to pop top and then mast . Not perfect, but , till it comes to top of my list it WORKS and its has a adjustable height that i never hit my head on...(YEAH RIGHT!)
