My prev. boat was a 26-S with a 8HP Merc. It was a great combination, and it moved the boat well.
There are Mac-S boats in my area with 9.9 HP engines, and they perform well. I think having an elect. start and engine battery charging system are definately a PLUS. Incidentally, the engine needs to be a long shaft.
