bbq mount location

Post by RNC725 »

anyone ever use, see, a bbq mounted on the bow pulpit? seems perhaps safer than having it at the stern with the ob and gas tank close....

Ummm..... no.
You proably don't want your headsail chafing on the bbq, not to mention it would look sort of ridiculous. With the bbq on the sern rail, both the grill and propane are outboard, so probably not much chance of going kaboom.

what kind of boat (you might want to fill out your profile so we won't keep asking) do you have?

An M does not have as much railing as an X and other models, so it is a bit more challenging but can be done

I have the West Marine BBQ. We mount it on the bow rail for use and then store it when not in use. I am reluctant to cook in close proximity to my gas tanks, and the Bow keeps smoke out of the cabin. Only takes a few minutes to set up.

I've used a BBQ mounted on the bow pulpit for several trips. I just loosen the clamp and swing it below the rail when not in use (bungie the top closed). Never had a problem with the Jenny catching or chafing.

Can't imagine cooking on the foredeck. Would end up feeding some nice steak to the fishies. :D

I mount mine (Mac 26S) to a lifeline support right behind the cabin. Check the following links

Actually, I find it very secure. I can just pop up out of the fore-hatch to check and flip those steaks. Of course, mine are often tube steaks.

The West Marine BBQ needs 2 attachment points so it won't work on a vertical stanchion. Would work on a horizontal between the mast carrier, but then I'm cooking over the Otbd. I made a stand attchment so that we can use it on shore, but when anchored, the bow works fine.
