For those of you that have added one of these lever, how far up the mast did you raise the forestay tang and how long was the lever? The lever I have can adjust from 6 7/8" to 8 3/8" Any idea how high I should move the tang up? I already shortened the forestay by 4" to reduce the rake.
Since this thread is over 2 years old and the OP has not visited the forum in over 6 months, I did a little sleuthing for you. By right clicking on the image and then selecting properties, it is revealed that the picture is hosted at Defender. Going to Defender's website and doing a quick search for "Quick Release Lever" brought this to light: Quick Lease Lever.(Their spelling, not mine.)
Delevi,
Now that I actually have a boat, and have raised the mast, I have a much greater appreciation for your aversion to a quick release forestay. I'm pondering the benefits of a QR furler and a redundant forestay like "Matt 19020" posted under http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... 30#p148220.

You can also purchase this device on the Kelly Hanson website. Regarding quick release, it is my understanding that the only thing released via the QR is a couple of inches of tension. The forestay remains connected until you remove the pin as per usual set up. Right? I haven't installed one yet but did just purchase from KH.
Wouldn't want that quick pin popping out under load. A few inches of sudden slack i.e. shock load while sailing or motoring at speed is potential for rig failure. Forestay slacks few inches, so do the shrouds. Wouldn't go there. Then you get into the complexities of shortening the jib or attaching the forestay higher (not where it was designed to attach.) What is the benefit anyway?
