Got home late last night with our new 2010 26M! White hull, Bill's deck package, main and jib. Pretty basic for now as advised by many until I see how we're using the boat. Spent the day with Bill at Boats 4 Sail rigging, talking, story telling and having a general good time. Promptly forgot everything Bill tried to teach me yesterday. Oh well, we'll find a day this week to put her in and he'll tell me all over again and then some I'm sure. She's at the local Evinrude dealer today for warranty inspection and registration.
Just as a heads up to anyone interested, while wiring your trailer light receptacle and plug, make sure your tester is NOT a 24V tester. After 2 hours of wiring, checking, rewiring, checking, replacing fuses on my truck and about to give up, I jokingly suggested to my buddy who was helping out on the trailer that "the only thing he hadn't replaced was the tester." He looked at it and asked if I could read what was in fine print on the handle. It read
" For 18, 24 and 36V circuits only." DOH!!! What will make it a story for the ages, between he and I, is that my buddy's a mechanic.
Oh well, no harm no foul other than putting a good dent in Bill's fuse supply. Didn't stop me from smiling the 3 hours home towing my Mac. Best part? Maybe walking out of the gas station I stopped at on the way home and a guy pumping gas shouting over, "hey man, nice looking boat."

As much as the Mac is bashed at "purists" sites like SA, I still get compliments about our Mac. Last week we anchored in a cove and some guwah in a Skidoo buzzed us and slowed down and said, "beautiful boat".

I finally figured out that launching at Westport MA cost me an extra 30 minutes of time because I was always fielding questions and comments about the boat.

For us it's 40 minutes to set up the boat- hour and a half if we get "visitors"!

It's amazing how many owners of bigger keelboats,after hearing about the water ballast,shallow draft etc. make comments like " I sure would like having a boat like that sometimes"

The "sometimes" would be after paying for the slip,the bottom painting,the hauling and pressure wash,the winter storage and the launch.
Next year we will end up paying a fee to store our boat for the winter-in the Exumas!

Congrats, you are beginning a wonderful journey. It is interesting how the sailors at my dock get real interested in the Mac 26M when it is time to trailer somewhere, bring her out for the season or step the mast to run rigging. Those 20 and thirty year old boats that fill my dock require a crew to get in and out of the water and are very difficult to trailer. To raise a mast it takes three or four men and some of the rigs they create to accomplish raising a mast are funny! I always help. I keep telling the guys I love my boat, and as a hybrid, she does all I ask her to do very well. And incidentally, have entered a couple of regattas this month and guess what, the Mac holds her own in her class. Have fun with you new boat.

rfrye94760 aka Bob, will be joining us in Racine, Wi next season at Gaslight Pointe Marina http://www.gaslightpointemarina.com/ . They still have some slips left and you can negotiate your price a little, cheaper than Winthrop Harbor (by about $500). If anyone signs up, just mention I sent you there.

On our way home on Saturday we saw another Mac X being towed, I think it was something like whoa be gone. Next year we should have our own sailing get together. It would be interesting to see that many Mac’s together as I have not seen one other on the water all year in Racine.

Allow me to ask how far from your boat to that parking lot? Do they have dock carts at the marina?

1) Parking is the only thing that sucks. It is very close to the boat, but it is $1.50 every time you enter. The only thing that makes up for it is you are right down town. You can walk to many restaurants (one is right on site); West marine is about a 10 minute walk. We seriously looked at Winthrop Harbor last year for our slip and stayed there a couple of nights. I am so glad we did pick Racine, there is just so much more around (and the price was a lot better).
2) There are dock carts (I think 2 on each side), which I have never had a problem with. We are so close we usually just carry the stuff.
3) And the best thing, this is a small marina and you deal with the owner directly. Whenever I have an issue, he responds almost immediately. I forgot one weekend to pull up my centerboard (until I got home) and I sent him an email, no problem he got it on Monday morning.

There is a get together this Saturday somewhere around 5:00. It would be a great time to stop by and tour the marina (they encourage this). They are serving food from the Chancery (onsite restaurant). If you are interested in coming out, send me an email and I will get you the details.
