Melbourne Leisurefest 2009

Post by brianhar »

Greetings,
I just got off the phone from our newest Mac owner. Geoff Harmer, he has just imported a brand new :macm: from the states. Alas it's only a slow white one

He will be displaying his new mac at this year's Melbourne Leisurefest as part of the Yachting Victoria display. The Liesurefest runs from 01 to 04 Oct at Sandown Racecourse. Geoff will have an amount of Mac information on hand in an attempt to drum up some more people to see the light and grab a Mac.

Geoff's boat is so new he only had the motor fitted today 8) .

What Geoff would like is for some current Mac owners to come down and say G'day and do a bit of a meet and greet. Evan better if some one could take over from Geoff to give him a break. If this is you, please PM me and I'll send you Geoff's e-mail address. :D

Geoff has already become a member of the new Mac Association and will have information to give out to prospective Mac members on display as well.

Might be worth doing some forward planning for next year and get the association to do something at the next leisurefest. :)

See ya

Clemo,
no Geoff is just your average Joe Citizen, who decided to import his own. It was his way of trying to save a few dollars.

Would like to get an update from him in six months or so to find out the final costs, when you take into account all the mods required to meet ADR's etc.

It would be great to have Geoff post on this forum as to 'how to import a boat'. I wish I could attend Leisurefest and speak to him myself but work commitments will keep me away. I'm sure many on this forum would be interested in the costs and problems involved.

Hi ogdog,

There are several people that have imported Mac's, either new or second hand. I imported mine secondhand without too many hassles. Do a search on this site or http://www.trailersailerplace.com.au. David Bagnall has described his import on his website, as has The Mutt.

I spent several hours at the Leisurefest today helping Geoff out. Sad that there were only a few sailboats there, but the Mac created great interest. A constant stream of people climbing aboard.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mistral, I checked out the site and read the posts of those mentioned. Some good advice and I think I will go down the same way and import when I can. Appreciate the response and good to see the favorable response the Mac got at Leisurefest.

Cheers.

ogdog,

You can also save yourself some hassles, now that there are two Mac dealers in OZ, so now there is competition and the prices might come down a bit.
Although I said I had littly hassles, it was still the time, the communication ,the authorities, the delays, etc. I had to deal with.
