I'M FRUSTRATED LOOKING FOR A BOAT

Post by pokerrick1 »

I am NOT having a good experience looking for a boat for Lake Mead. As you know, I sold my :macm: last year (pretty much gave it away to a worthy family).

I have been looking for a powerboat in the 20' to 27' range. preferably with a cabin but I will consider an open bow and have looked at a few deck boats - - - I am looking at both older AND newer boats. The older ones are JUNK and the newer ones are WAY OVERPRICED!

I am finding that used boat dealers are rediculous and that they are demanding way too much for decent stock. The private sellers in Las Vegas are not living in the real world either - - - I am finding that no one wants to negtiate much and I wind up wishing them good luck in selling their boat.

Now I'm a cash buyer willing to tow the boat away RIGHT NOW, and shockingly, I have not been able to look at much; and it is getting very frustrating - - - but I WILL NOT give in - - - I know that sellers SHOULD now be begging for customers. I keep reading about some pretty decent boats being ABANDONED all over the country; but I sure can't find any to look at. My latest ploy was to contact Bank of America's repo dept to see what boats they had and their prices were way out of line also!!!???

What's up with this??? Is it Las Vegas? Things are horrible here compared to business as usual. Why aren't prices lower?

Boats are still a luxury item and the prices reflect that. I think that anyone who HAD to dump their boat for financial reasons has long ago done so and there are not as many real "deals" out there. But there are still some good buys. It took me two yrs to find the deal I was comfortable with. Had a price and type of boat in mind and just stuck with it until I finally found it. I literally looked/researched every day! YES it can be frustrating but your boat's out there. Just don't give up!

Rick..dont give up. And, dont overlook the "routine" newspaper ads.

The deals I run across in my sailing and motor boating area are all over the spectrum...some great, some junk. My area is "saturated" with boats, and the amazing thing is that everything eventually sells down here -- even the junk.

I still think you shouldve held onto that Mac (as you know, it has all the ingredients -- power, sail, camp, fishing, trailerable, weekending, etc.)

This is probably true, Mark - - - I think today's times should be lowering prices much more than they actually are!

Should have kept it Rick.

I have used my M just as a power boat, like others have, mastless, and it made a great power boat.

With the right motor, like a 90 or 115, she is sweet.

You can't beat this much boat for the money.

But then again, you of all people already knew that.....

I have been thinking about buying a place in LAS, or near by, and having an M in Lake Mead also.

Good luck with your search.

Funny thing is, it will probably bring you right back where you started.

tell ya what Rick

I have a 1989 Marlin 210 Raven ski/cruiser bowrider I bought new in 1989, with less than 300 total engine hours since new, does about 45 mph, has a 5.7, 270 hp, king cobra outdrive....you might want, lives under a boat cover and that is under a costco shelter.

or you could always make me an offer on my old X boat......I would toss in the furuno radar, full electrasan head, full enclosure and all the other stuff you wont need on lake mead.............lol....

anything else you dont need??

Hi Rick,
Just how much of a powerboat do you want? A special deal can be had on a Macgregor 26M with no sailing hardware, no mast, rudders, boom , sails, etc.. Have in mind a blue boat right here almost ready to go. 90 hp E-Tec, special details?

Thanks Mike - -- but I would have a hard time being on an :macm: and NOT be able to sail it - - - and I don't think Mead (or this area with it's weather at least) is a very good spot to sail. MDR is better 8)

Here it's either 105 and no wind or 60 and 30+MPH :P

Mike, nice to see you are selling boats with bigger motors at last. A 90 is the perfect size for a Mac, particularly one used as a powerboat.

I also think these boats are great used mastless, it takes us the same amount of time at home to set it aside on saw horses as it does at the ramp to raise it. Without the mast you can get in and out of the water quickly for those short trips where you just want to be on the water. Just don't forget you still need a forward facing white light when under power at night and that is mounted on the mast. I built a short mast that mounts in the step and carries the required light when the sailing mast is at home.
