Well, okay. good video.
Reminds me of the speed of my powerboat that I sold after I bought my first Macgregor. I rarely travel full throttle now - once last summer, just to get off the lake because of lightning.

Costs too much on gas.
That video was at my cruise speed.
Sometimes I back it off even further to around 16kts.
Quiet and max fuel and range econ.

Re: 26M Zoom Zoom
Very cool - so a bunch of questions if you don't mind
1) Did you have to modify the transom to take the extra power of the outboard
2) What is approx fuel consumption at 4000 rpm and 22 knots
3) Notice you have an autopilot - is it any good and what is it

1. Yes. I researched what others did on this site, and did the same.
I installed 1/4 inch aluminum plates in both the outboard motor well and the aft berth. ie all 4 bolts are reinforced.
2. I have never done a fuel analysis that specific. I just know I get far better fuel econ at 3/4 throttle, on plane, empty ballast, around 20 kts or so.
3. Autopilot is a Raymarine.
Installed it the same time many on this site did and for the same reasons. It went on sale, and it works very well.
It remains the single most important and recommended mod I have ever done to my Mac and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Last night, I was sailing with my girls, 9 and 11, 15kts breeze, I was able to sit with them on the cabin top and just enjoy the passing view with them while auto did all the work keeping up at a beam reach for hours holding 15deg heel.
It was one of those moments that I will remember for a lifetime.
Can't do that without auto or a second hand, which I rarely have, so its auto or bust.

Is your auto pilot the X-5 Raymarine Sport Pilot model or the X-5 Smart Pilot model? (I think the Sport Pilot is for powerboats.)beene wrote: 3. Autopilot is a Raymarine.

How many hours did it take you to install?

I have been reading your postings and watching your videos and can see that you are probably as close as one can get in achieving what I consider to be the optimum powering setup for the M.
My question to you, now that you have the experience of your Merc 75; if you were to repower would you consider the same setup or another motor?
Your views are greatly appreciated.

Re: 26M Zoom Zoom
Just for interest sake.....I fitted a secondhand ($280) Raymarine sportpilot (not X5 but older model) to my 26X.....works great both under power and sail.Just remove wheel slip the autopilot onto shaft and then refit wheel, just a matter of fitting gyro compass and away you go.Able to set autopilot and also adjust steering at anytime....as soon as you let go of steering auto takes over

Love it can't wait to get my X probably another 3 yrs
, I love the looks of th M but really love the cabin layout of the X. Would the same performance be reached with an X with a 75? I more interested in sailing than speed but would love to move that fast if I had to.

Re: 26M Zoom Zoom
I put a 90 Hp Yamaha 2 stroke on my X. Still need a better prop to get beter speed but i hit 18 knots (21 mph) and I'm always loaded for cruising.
Went with a 2 stroke because its lighter and has limited effect on my sailing (50 Hp Tohatsu 208 lbs vs 90 HP Yamaha 261 lbs)
I moved my batteries, water and booze forward under the front berth to counteract weight addition.

Re: 26M Zoom Zoom
Just curious what would an x do with the accommodations for a weekend of lake sailing with a 50 HP with reasonable accommodations probably 2 adults and a 3 yr old? I'll probably be on KLein Murray in S.C. most of the time but would like to go to Charleston harbor after I'm comfortable. The most people I would have abord for any overnight trip would be 4 adults and my lil man on the lake. I would like to achieve 17 mph loaded for day trips and around 14 mph for over nighters with gear for two days is this possible with a 50?

Re: 26M Zoom Zoom
Which 50 HP ? There is a HUGE difference between them . No way those Tohatsu's can stand up to My Mercury 4-s 50 HP EFI BF .. So To start.. it needs to be a Big Prop Model.
Beene and Highlander show video proof, that Not Much can compete with Mercury's..and Beene and Highland IIRC bought them used from IBOATS for far under the cost of an ETEC 60... a Motor that so far , as has been reported, been unable to break 17 MPH at WOT compared to 22 at 4000 rpm..
