John,

Nice trip report and I enjoyed the pictures, you got some good ones. One correction -Bob and Alicia came up with the great restaurant in Fernandina.
Same time next year?

Sorry Bob and Alicia, great choice!

I've already requested the time off from work, so everyone mark your calendars now. Next Labor Day, the Jax Macs will sail again! I am doing the research now to plan a trip down the St. Johns, it's amazing how far south we can navigate.

Of course I am always working on shorter trips to help me get my fix during the interm. The weather is starting to cool and the winds are picking up on the river so that means I'll be sailing as much as possible. 8)

I have Labor Day on my calendar blocked off for next year...keeping my fingers crossed. I still go back and look at the pics from last year about once a month or so...what a great trip that was. And looks to me like this years trip was just as good.

Jim

You're a plank owner for the Jax Macs so you were there in spirit this year. If you want I can Photoshop a few pics of Konig onto the beach :P Just kidding. We will see you next year or sooner if you want to head south before that, just let us know. Keep us posted on the engine repairs.

They called and said the boat is fixed. I will pick it up on Saturday and bring it to the house for a few weeks of TLC.

Maybe I should start a contest to see who can guess the price of this repair. My guess is they took no more than 30 minutes with the engine. Found a faulty sensor which they quickly/easily replaced...or...they found a blocked cooling water line somewhere and quickly/easily unblocked it. And the bill for that 30 minutes of work and simple cheap part will be...$482.77.

I will let you know on Saturday.

The verdict is in. It was a broken Thermostat. The three parts they replaced cost about $50...the grand total was $219.99.

König is now at the house and the mast is up. I have taken everything out of it and it is ready for a cleaning...it is very dirty. There is a little mildew on some of the carpeted interior sides and on some of the fabric covered cushions.

Let the cleaning begin...then come the mods/repairs/installs.

Hope to be sailing on Saturday 2 October.

Cheers,
Jim

I guess $220 bucks isn't too bad, even if the labor rate is inflated.I wonder if there is a flat rate guide for marine technicians that is similar to the ones used in the automotive industry?
Good luck on the upcoming projects and with your upcoming launch date. Keep us posted.

John - in my limited experience boat shops charge actuals only, no hour rate schedule like automotive. When you think about it, it makes sense - an inboard install on a Bayrider might mean a completely different task for 'rocker arm replacement' than on a Chris Craft.
