new from MacGregor; spreaders on/under lifelines
This will be fixed! We are working on making it easy to raise the mast. I pretty much think the Mac mast raiser is the best out there for a boat this big. But, maybe it can be better. How about: a) you don't need to lift the mast. b) no dancing around the lifelines, c) no wires hanging up on the mast carrier, d) the mast raiser needs to be small enough to store quickly. Stay tuned for next gen, the goal of rigging in 10-15 min.
By th way, step c) is complete, all done, now shipping with every new boat. See, it's the little stuff, good things happen.

Hi Mike --
Ongoing process improvement - I love it!
So how long am I (we) going to have to wait before d) starts to ship?

This is interesting,
I am planning to trailer the boat quite often,
maybe I should wait for this improvement.
When will all this be available??

Hi Norca,
Get it now. If you send me info on your new boat purchase from any dealer, before this month is out, I'll send you a retro-fit of the changes, free freee.
Always pushing, time to get a MacGregor is now. Every day sailing is not counted against you in your lifespan. Happiest days in a boaters life are Sat and Sun. Waste not, go sailing. Why be the bridesmaid when you can go sailing.
OK, two points for the best original reason for Norca to get off the pot.

Re: new from MacGregor; spreaders on/under lifelines
Anyone ever hear a reply from Mike at the Factory on this? After setting up my new '11
a few times the lifeline / spreader battle is really a pain, I have researched this forum, and found quite a bit of info on the subject, but I really would like to know what the Factory solution is.
I did reach out to Mike back when this topic started, but never got an answer.

Re: new from MacGregor; spreaders on/under lifelines
I talked with Mike Inmon at the LA boat show about a month ago.
He was telling me that they cut the spreaders from 44" to 40".
The lost 8" of total overall width is supposed stop the Mac dance.
He also mentioned that any M could do the same, as the existing shroud adjustment can shorten enough without new, shorter shrouds being required, although it may be close to bottomed out.
According to Mike, the theoretical engineering load numbers were fine, and direct load testing confirmed the numbers.
(As a side benefit, one could prolly sail a few degrees higher with a tighter genny, IMHO).
Nothing mentioned about the new gin pole thingy.

Re: new from MacGregor; spreaders on/under lifelines
Or just spend $5 and buy 2 hitch pins to replace the bolts. remove the spreaders when lowering the mast. Secure them to the mast while trailering. No chance of rubbing on the boat.
No cutting of the shrouds, spreaders, etc. No adjustments. nothing.
Easiest mod you can do on the boat. remove bolt, (optionally, if new pins are big - drill out holes a bit bigger), insert pins, done.
Makes life 110% easier when raising/lowering the mast.
