WHITE OR BLUE?
I plan to purchase a new M within the next couple of months. However, and of course, the more I learn about this vessel, the more questions I have. For example, white or blue? One very knowledgeable source advises against a blue hull; says it scratches easily exposing white and these don't buff out. Another valid source claims that the blue hull scratches no more than the white, that the scratches on blue do buff out, and that scratches on the white expose a black layer beneath. What does the jury have to say on this topic? Thank you!

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
This is my blue 2003 hull at the beginning of the 2010 season .

I personally think the blue hull makes my M look more expensive! Of course we all know that the blue hull heats up more than the white hull there by allowing the molecules of water to slip by the blue hull more quickly, a kind of physicists Teflon. My ''constatation'' is that... Blue is better cause it looks more expensive and goes faster.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
I have the white but definitely would have preferred the blue.
I'm trying to figure how to add a little color to my black and white boat. The dealer didn't recommend the blue because he said it would show wear and tear more easily so I got the used white boat instead of a new blue boat. Saved me some money!
If he had a used blue boat I would have bought it instead.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Well, I've had a blue Mac for 3 years and it's not hard to keep up. However, I slip mine and don't run it up on a trailer every week which might add more scratches. If I were in salt water, maybe white would be easier to keep white.
I don't know, it's a very personal decision. I went the vanity route and paid the extra money for the blue hull because I like the looks. But honestly, you can't see the hull from on the boat.
If I lived in Florida, I'd go with white for heat reasons. It does warm up a little bit. Not enough to bother me.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Wifey likes the blue better...that's all it takes for me...when we get an M that is.
Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
I asked the same question a few months back before I purchased mine. I went with the white so it would not show the dirt as fast. Now that I have it I think it was the right choice for me (I just washed it for the first time)
Both Are sharp looking. I can't tell you what one is faster as I have not sailed it in winds that produced more speed than 1.1 mph yet. Did not get scared yet either-bring on the 3 mph. lol

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Personally, I like both. My wife liked the blue hull and SuperSport added it to the package deal when I bought it. Having sailed a blue hull for a season, I'm still pleased with it. I have a few scuffs that have all rubbed out easily.
Recently, during a race (yes, the blue hulled M gets to race with the big boys: Tartans, Hunters, Odays, Catalinas, etc...) I was cutting it close to a spit of land when flukey winds put both Galactica and a Hunter we were following into a stand of submerged trees. A treetop sticking about a foot out of the water rubbed along the last 10 feet of her port side. The blue scuffed but rubbed out.
I am both amazed and pleased with all the positive comments I get about the boat both on and off the water by all types of people. Being the only blue
on the lakes we haunt, everybody knows it's me when I do something particularly stupid (adventurous is my term for it).

I have some gravel roads to tow on and the blue does get dusty at times.
Good luck on your purchase!

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Last April, a Mac. dealer in Clear Lake, FL., set us up to look at a new and used
. The new boat was at his lot in Clear Lake and it was a very good looking "blue" boat. The used boat was in Tampa Bay on it's trailor near the water. It was located in a row with several other Macs,
and
. Being able to look at the boats side by side, go aboard them and having been able to talk to several of the boat owners was very helpful. One thing that was pointed out to us is the blue color will fade after a few years in the sun. The older blue color did not look near as good as the new.
Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
In Florida, just the black stripes are a PITA to keep up with - the sun eats these alive down here in Clearwater. All the blue hulls that I have seen here are faded.
It depends on why you are getting the boat. A blue hull will add quite a bit of maintenance leaving two choices:
1) The most popular is to let it fade
2) Put in the time and elbow grease to maintain it - there quite a few that have accomplished this and their boats look great. They also tend to live at higher latitudes where the sun isn't so problematic.
I got my boat to sail and wanted the lowest maintenance possible.
