Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
I want to thank all of you who have responded to my "white or blue" inquiry; I really appreciate the advice. As you can see, it seems we have a "hung jury", with no prevailing opinion on the issue. I hope to continue to receive additional input on this.
The debate re speed is interesting. One sailor, who responded here, is confident that his blue hull is faster than white ones, while many others disagree. The video submitted by Highlander (thanks for attaching that, Highlander) impressively shows a white hull summarily overtaking a blue hull, both under power. But one has to wonder: Really now, can that dramatic difference in speed witnessed on that tape be entirely attributable to only hull color? I mean, even though both outboard motors may have been rated at 50hp, don't some motors outperform others? Also, couldn't weight on board the two vessels have made a significant difference as well? What do you guys think?
Thanks again, everyone.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Since the white hull is less controversial, you should probably mostly listen to those who actually have blue hulls or who have had both.
I have a blue hull m and I would agree with one of the early posters that the white hull is more practical, less easy to scuff/scratch up, easier to keep looking nice, and maybe stays cooler in hot climates. probably the best choice for beginners who tend to have issues docking these kites in side winds
the big advantage of the blue hull is simply looks. I constantly get comments on how nice my blue m looks, many more than I got with an older white hull macgregor. one neighbor gets upset when it is gone, since she enjoys looking at it on the way to mail box.
plus, it is hard to name a boat blue angel is it is white.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
Unbeknownst to the general population of
owners, mostly because of the ensuing rioting by the white hull owners, is the fact that the blue pigmentation is heavier and forces the hull of the boat to sit more calm and even keeled in the water. Notice the blue
in the Gale Force videos used by the sales ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJb5AXFUKPI). If they'd have used the White Hulled
, the video would end abruptly and violently...

David,
Get your boat fixed up and we will settle this on the Potomac...
Besides I need someone to take pictures of the my boat and since you will be behind me the whole way as you try to catch up you can take some pictures from behind...
Cheers,
Jim

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
I don't generally get so technical with y'all, but the main factor in the color vs. speed equation is that of the elements involved. Titanium, the pigment ingredient that gives us WHITE is a much more impressive element than cobalt, the blue ingredient. Moreover, blue is the color of sadness, and everyone knows that sadness slows us down. White is the sum of prismatic colors, and thus much more inclusive than the limited blue wavelengths. Microscopically, the white color is more startling to the water atoms, and the resulting surface repulsion makes the white hull more slippery to the water mollycules, while a blue color is soothing to them, and they slow down the hull getting intimately comfortable.
Like I was trying to say, these technical discussions may not be understood by the common layman, but I have seen some other thin attempts to describe the physics of why one color may be faster than another.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
I'm just saying that white is the color of the virgin, the less experienced of the female species...so it is with the hull of the
. It's a matter of the hull not coming into it's own..fully developing and lacking the seasoned appetite required to produce a smoother and more settled motion. Most white hull owners may notice a bit of uneasiness and nervous handling; thus confusing this with speed. Even the heavier, blue hull owner knows...but rarely shares this insight with the white hull owners...the apparent lack of enjoyment they experience while the white hulls concentrate on it's attempt to get to the finish line first. I'll apologize now to all the blue hull owners for letting this secret out.

Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
And all this time, I thought it was because the blue hull was better camoflaged in the water, so the water molecules didn't know it was there, thus unable to mount as much resistance, as well as not being able to alert the other water molecules before the hull slipped up on them...
Re: WHITE OR BLUE?
The invisibility of the Blue Hull was covered in another thread and deemed to actually be dangerous as breaching whales may not be able to see your boat.
It's getting deep now!
