Re: Pictures taken from your MacGregor
We just spent a long weekend at Brisbane Marina, south of San Francisco. We checked out the 2010 Fleet Week on SF Bay on Sat, 10/9. The west side of Acatraz was the prime viewing spot for the Blue Angels air show, but the boat traffic there was just too dense, plus we arrive a little late, around 1 pm. So we drifted and motored around just north of the Bay Bridge and west of Treasure Island, and it turned out to be a pretty good spot.
The bay was very choppy with all the boat traffic, and the wind was about 10 - 15 kts, but increased later in the day.
The videos of the Fleet Week air show and the boat traffic are on You Tube. They are a little jerky and grainy, but, well, the boat was rolling and pitching quite a bit

A low fly-over:

The following day, I decided to make a run for the Golden Gate Bridge. There was a persistent fog bank starting from from SF Marina (just west of Alcatraz), all the way out the Gate. I waited near Alcatraz for a while, hoping it would burn off, but it only seemed to get worse. So I made a run for it. I had a radar reflector in place, and stayed out of the shipping lanes. It was fog bound under the bridge, so I couldn't see much, but I had alot of fun, anyway. The current was not too bad (switching from ebb to flood), and the swells were only a couple of feet. At the Gate, I saw dolphins. I also came across a large tidal eddy just west of the bridge. This resembled boiling water, and was pretty large. The boat wanted to spin around in the eddy, but a quick burst of throttle on the outboard was all it took to get safely out of it
Fog bound at the Golden Gate:

Up Close and personal with Alcatraz Island.

All in all, a very nice weekend. Plus, we had some terrific weather for this time of year.

Be careful around the Gate Roger - there can be stuff coming under at 18 kts that cant stop..
..and the south end is no place for sailboats of any kind...you can google a great sequence of shots of a Cat 21 doing the stern over bow maneuver in the surf there....

Thanks for the tips. Yes, I was very careful and tried to stay in the outbound shipping lane. At least I won't get hit from ahead, only from behind.
Next time, I'll try to cross on a clear day!
Yes, there were breakers on the south side of the bridge. I have seen that video of the sailboat capsizing in the breakers. At low tide, it is especially bad. I stayed well away from those babies!

I haven't been on the forum for a while but is great to see the pictures in this thread. The variety of these pictures really demonstrates how the Mac is a truly global boat. Great pictures.

Looking through a Washington State Ferry heading northwest as we were heading southeast towards Friday Harbor as the morning fog was burning off. Shaw Island is on the left and San Juan Island on the right.

Here is one of my favorites that does not include a portion of my boat:

Re: Pictures taken from your MacGregor
Was going to post a few
photo's of our last trip but especially for the Aussies at least it would possibly be better to have a sequence set up from the start , some land some water but all from at or on the boat, so not sure whether to do that here, just a link to Photobucket or a separate thread, any ideas?
Our Macs are absolutely perfect for travelling land and water but other than being told about another doing it while in the Wyndham Caravan park haven't seen one, bit disappointing, yeah I know not everyone has the time.
