How much does Blue paint slow you down?

Post by magnetic »

This Dutch video has all sorts of things wrong with it, but even with a guy (with no lifejacket) sitting on the bow, I see a 60hp Yamaha pushing a :macm: without sails or boom at a GPS recorded 30.6 km/h = 19.25 mph = 16.7 knots.

My horrible little Honda BF50 can push the snow-white Morwenna to this speed, antifouled, badly propped and with the boom and sails still in situ; http://www.macgregorsailors.com/forum/v ... il#p194760

does the blue hull colour really slow the :macm: so badly? 8)

Slow enough, so that the white hull might come up close enough for visual recognition :D :D :D .

Fair winds,

It's at least 110% - - - that's why you see so many blue hulls going backwards :P  :!:

Appears he is looking good at 16.5 knots for a 60 hp. My Honda 1997 bf50 does 13.5 knots loaded heavy. The X is slightly faster than the M under power due to the M having a slightly larger V hull. He also has bottom paint...what a drag!
His boat must be lightly loaded, the no boom and sails he may have only done 15 knots or a wee bit more.

My blue hull moves so quick it seems slow to the untrained eye. :D

Hummm I owned water front property ( 3 season home) on a lake for a few years. I cannot say I would want him as a neighbor...or even going by my waterfront .....

Yea, he is quite the inconsiderate boater leaving all that wash/wake slamming folks' waterfront. :P
The water there looks quite brownish, not sure I'd swim in it. :?
Now for all you folks who question planing, it appears that boat was doing it's own style of planing, maybe not like a flat bottom speed boat but it sure looked like planing in a few shots to me. Did anyne else see planing? :o

I was thinking the same thing but who knows the rules their. :?
I know we have slow speed zone's or no wake but if no Patrol is looking they just ignore the signs...even if boats are next to them.
We call them Weekend Warriors or Yahoo's.

Yeah, they do the same to us when we're canoeing...if they laugh at us or are jerks, I cast my bait at them as hard as I can...(never caught one yet, but made the point a few times).

That is the difference between recklessly negligent and deliberately malicious; only one of those attitudes will get you on a murder rap if someone gets hit :?
