A few questions for you guys

I've often thought about bringing one of my sailboards along - and figured I'd secure it amidship, outside of the lifeline stanchions, but haven't done this yet tho.

That would be fine for one board - - - but not six

Is there room to stack em.. and as said, front to back, Bow to Mast??
Long board ? SUMNER!!!!!! This Guy Needs some custom SS brackets to mount two long board Vertical and Parallel with and in front of the Mast???

If you really need six boards just get an older Gemini catamaran.
You may be able to find a really thrashed one for 20-25 thousand.
Catamarans will have the deckspace you need and way better accommodations.

I don't know much about surfing (Catigale don't surf..... )....but I'm guessing they weigh >50 lbs each ?? Six boards up on topn will have an effect on boat stability on thee boats...unlike most 26 footers. The Mac is made light for trailerability which means you have to watch where you stow your stuff.

My shortboard weighs 4 pounds and my freinds longboards weigh more in the 6-7 pound range. Epoxy is a wonderful thing man. Weight will not be an issue, just space. And, well if they werent strapped in right, or stored in the wrong area im sure they could catch plenty of wind and slow you down.

and regarding the Cat, i would love one, but for my price range i would need to go way back to when they were known for capsizing and im not really comfortable with that, plus Cats cost extra at the marina if im not mistaken, and i cant even afford a freaking mono sitting at the marina, much less a cat.

Or should i say, i could probably afford it, but it would hurt a lot. I dont make enough to where i can just constantly spend on a hobby, i need recoup periods in between bouts of binge spending if that makes sense lol.

I am no surfer either!! But I was TOTALLY AMAZED! These boards are, lite weight !! Amazingly so!! I grabbed a 6 footer and was thinking?? OOppss Ive just made a fool of myself and grabbed a Cardboard Mock-up.. Nope.. the dang things are lite... Later talking with the Instructor and having a beer , he laughed and said I watched too many old movies.. He said his are all instructional boards ( heavy duty Mack Trucks of the industry..indestructible) but weigh 2 to 3 times that of a serious board.. So what ya have is a Problem with short term storage... Problems are NOTHING...but a chance to show those around you how "cleaver " or Mechanically Astute/adept... you are...Start thinking.... IMHO start thinking inside and outside the box.. Back in The Day Numerous ones of us would get together and go camping.. with and On our Harley's.. My buddies for the most part had big heavy Baggers.. Mine was for the time period... a Street Dragster.. So I built and re-built ( till I had it right) a S.S. rack for the back and hauled My Stuff....Was that how I street raced her? No way.. But it allowed me too , to do and go when I wanted to..
Two long boards Mounted Vertically To The Front of the Mast will have very little effect on this boat..Depending on the Foresail shape and size it wont even effect the use of that.. Just like my Drag Bike..It did what I now ....wanted it to do.. Would I plunk down a weeks wages or 5 times that amount on a drag race with all that on board? No! But I didn't have to drive my car and.... follow the guys either...

Isn't there a story in Mac lore about some surfers (or maybe they were catamaran sailors) that bought an X and basically used it as a support vehicle. I swear I read that somewhere but now I can't remember enough details to even search for it. I'm hazy on the details of the story but I seem to recall Roger gave them a free mast or something. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

I haven't seen that post, hart, but I have seen many many articles written about having a "mother ship"...which the Mac would be in this case... Kayakers, canoe'ers, fishing trips, etc. all have "the big boat" to come back to - and all it is for is hauling all the stuff to and from the destination, then serving as the sleeping/storage quarters while there.

Has anyone suggested stowing the surfboards in the stern berth ?
Stack them up on one side and you still can sleep somebody on the other .

One or two in the bow berth
One in the stern berth
two in the stern seats , a tarp tent over the boom for bad weather.

So thats sleeping for 4 people , at least , plus board stowage .

The internet is full of stories of people who take Macs to the Bahamas and live aboard for months at a time.

We are currently outfitting our for living aboard . We plan to sell the house and travel for awhile . The Bahamas are in our future
