What do you do..........
............to pass the time in the evenings when you are moored up on your boats, especially if you don't have a fancy flat screen TV installed. I could guess at card and board games, books, etc and what do all you lone sailors do to pass the time when on the hook? [No rude replies please

If you search "Destinations " for my Cuttyhunk trips you will find I take 5-7 teenagers aboard my
on anchor at Cuttyhunk Island for a week at a time during the summer. I worried about keeping them amused at first, but found that between sailing and swimming, we return to the boat at 6pm, cook dinner, go to shore for ice cream, and are lights out by 9pm...including me!!
On a rainy day, it's books and perhaps a video or two.

Work out where I am going the following day on laptop then download to GPS. Or plan passage on paper chart if the laptop battery is flat
. Check engine (oil petrol etc). Check anchor, anchor lights, etc. Listen to the radio, work out what mods to do in the winter, fill in logbook, cook dinner & clear up. Play games, music, Video’s, and next season try watching TV all on the laptop. Otherwise sit in the cockpit and watch the world go by

I have never found a shortage of things to do when "Idle". There is always maintnenance and minor repair. One week while moored in Catalina I discovered Horatio Hornblower and read all 13 volumes. Gave my wife more time to shop
Always kept a chess/checker set aboard and other board games. If you're not a total recluse it's a great time to meet other sailers and trade ideas, sea stories and tall tales. Made some lifelong frineds this way. Fair Winds and Full Sails....

Careful kev..
got a peachy shower shot or three...
We spend a fair time cooking gourmet dinners. Figuring out how to shower/clean/tidy/improve our boat for extended cruising and improving comforts
We've just got back from a week on the canals in London. Excellent, left the mast at home!

Lone sailor? Hasn't happened yet. Get an iPad, download PDFs of all your manuals and the bowditch, couple of movies, and while away the hours. Best investment in not being bored ever.kitcat wrote:............to pass the time in the evenings when you are moored up on your boats, especially if you don't have a fancy flat screen TV installed. Play cards, listen to the stereo and drink if I am with crew. If I am solo I play my clarinet then watch movies on my DVD with built in 9" screen. Note: I don't play the clarinet if I am with crew lest they abandon ship or worse, force me to!
