Vacationing in Cape Coral
I’d like to bring down my MacGregor and vacation in the Cape Coral area of Florida sometime this winter. From the maps it looks like it has a huge sailing ground! Can you all recommend some places to explore as well as some marinas to base from? Thanks!

I have to keep reminding my self this board is M and X owners, so It won't take that long to get north of bokeelia , into charlotte harbor, or south out of the bridge to ft myers and into the gulf.
cayo costa is worth the run, for an overnight.
beaches on west coast are some of the best in the world. of course you need to head to sanibel for shell hunting.

How long will you be there and do you want a marina for every night or occasionally? I'm not sure I would pick that particular area myself. We have been by there and even though it was not the weekend a lot of traffic over there and to go north you deal with the miserable mile and even though you have a faster boat on the motor you will have to go further on the ICW to get to larger bodies of water. I might be wrong about some of that so hopefully Dave sees this and comments.Inquisitor wrote:I’d like to bring down my MacGregor and vacation in the Cape Coral area of Florida sometime this winter. As Bill said Charlotte Harbor to the north is a big area to sail in and you have Pelican Bay there and Cayo Costa like he mentioned and you can go outside in the Gulf there a lot quicker. The only problem is I don't know the marinas there as we always anchor out. If I was looking for a marina I'd look for one around Boca Grande as that would get you near the Gulf end of Charlotte Harbor or one up by Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte if you wanted to be at the inland side of Charlotte Harbor.
If you wanted to stay off the boat at night we did that for a couple nights at Jensen's...

...and loved the place and they waived the slip fee and through it in with the room rate that they also lowered since we stayed for more than 1-2 nights. A really nice place and ....

......you can walk over to the Gulf side and there are....

.... some nice places to eat there. Also it is just a a couple miles out of their place to good sailing.
We put in at All American and they had good rates for leaving the tow vehicle and trailer. All of this info is on our Fall trip report....

It is a nice area and we hope to be back early in the year ourselves,

That northern location would be a good one. Central to a lot of good places to go to,mrbillfll wrote:I just assumed you've rented a house in cape coral...

Cabbage Key is a Island west of Pine Island and closest Boat ramp would be Pineland.
Home of the Jimmy Buffet Hamberger ($9).
Sumner, this is the first I seen of this post and noticed original poster did not reply.
I like your report of Jensen's but they don't allow over night slips unless you rent a cottage.(no dump out station) They will allow you to dock your boat if buying fuel and spend a couple hrs. shopping if they are not to busy.
I was Sailing this past weekend and wasn't on the internet tho I resent bought a Iphone 4 and a Chart App for $18 that mets all my chart and navigation needs.
For those who are interested in cruiseing SW Florida I could give you local knowledge in were to go,Marinas,Anchorages, dockage and intertainment.
Email me for details.
Cabbage Key: Lat. 26.39.32, Long. 82.13.31
Tween Waters just South West of of Jensen (1/4 mile) has a Marina at $70 a nite at the dock but you have full advatage of pools,Hot Tubs and a heavy bar bill.
